Yes, there are many causes of wildfires, but the media seems hellbent on blaming all of this on climate change.  Who knows, maybe it had something to do with forest management, or how the Australians strategize to fight wildfires.

Don't see climate change mentioned in the article at all. It clearly states arson. I know people seem to react to climate change in general, for better or worse, but drought has been a regular occurrence in the western US for several years now, and obviously in other areas of the world, such as this fire. Blame it on the sun if you want. Regardless of the "why", the bottom line is when drought conditions exist, wild fires are going to happen. They happen even without human intervention, but more often than not, human activity/stupidity seems to be a contributing factor.

There is no dispute in this country about the issue of climate change globally and its effect on global weather patterns, and that includes how it impacts in Australia," the prime minister said.

“I have to correct the record here. I have seen a number of people suggest that somehow the government does not make this connection. The government has always made this connection and that has never been in dispute,” he said.

Morrison has faced widespread criticism for taking a family vacation in Hawaii at the start of the wildfire crisis, as well as for his sometimes distracted approach as the disaster has escalated and his slowness in deploying resources.

I have read in more than one article that he is “taking heat” for the fires.

Well yeah, I would say here too, the hotter it has been, the drier it gets and the more likely wild fires are to spread. Still, when someone starts the fire due to carelessness (or intentionally), that is not something that should be blamed on climate. I would expect the average person to be able to realize that you have to be more careful with fires when we have had a hot dry season. And the average person paying attention around here would know that it has been hotter and drier the last 10 years or so than it it was in the recent past.

My experience dealing with the brain dead from the Front Range suggest things are getting worse.

IDK, we had some crazy things in the past too. The worst fire in modern Colorado history was started by a forest service worker burning a letter from her husband in a campsite during a season where we had a total fire ban.

If you take time to listen to the Australian indigenous people , you quickly hear that they have lived with the wildfire, like what is happening now, for all their spoken history .. they have a word that describes it, they have a response .. move out of the area .. they have very effective “cool burn” practices that reduce fuel load. This is no new event. What has and is changing is the environmental movement  challenges to reducing the fire loss by intentional burning , and the increased encroachment by people who want to live in the natural beauty but don’t respect /regard the risks. You can’t have your cake and eat it too .. decrease reduction burns will increase risk of fires spreading .., living in dense forest areas bring increased risk of loss of life and property.

I see I deleted part of my post as I was saving it....

What I was trying to ask is how is this fire season, which allegedly has arson as part of its source, compare to other fire seasons down under?  I'm seeing a lot of news about it now, but never have before.  Is that because this year is particularly bad?  Or simply that no one over here cared in years past?

It seems pretty strange to me that people are claiming the "arson" is being perpetrated by bots, while real people are crying "climate change".  Seems like someone is trying real hard to push an agenda.

Even saw one article where someone was accusing the PM of doing nothing, and claiming that Australia is #2 in carbon emissions.  Which is of course #fakenews.  They are more like country #16 on the world list.

Of course, with all the CO2 this fire is creating,  Australia may indeed be the reason the world ends in 5 years.

The aussie fire season runs in a cycle as most of nature does. The last time fires of this magnitude occurred were in Feb 2008 when 173 lives were lost and several complete communities burned through .. same conditions  as this year ...  prior to that it was in 1983.
In between years range from very low fire events to significant .. then the extreme one raises it’s head.
