I'm allergic to my engagement ring :( It's labled .925 silver but I know it's not, unless the other .075 is pure nickel :( I have to keep coating it with clear nail polish and I only wear it when I go out. We haven't figured out what we will do for wedding bands yet but we will not be buying from inspiredsilver.com again

possibly TMI, but I had a surgical steel nipple ring for quite a long time, my piercer had told me it was hypo-allergenic. I had a rash for years and it had never healed. I broke down and bought a titanium barbell for it and the problem cleared up in about 2 days. I told him this when I went back for the second ring. (I had them arranged to look like this + ) I asked and paid for titanium, I saw him reach for titanium and somehow mixed in, I got the one stainless steel post that someone threw in there. :( Luckily he's a good friend of mine that when I went back he just traded them out. Thank god I got titanium in my tongue the first time out! :o

Going for as much gold as you can is a good plan. It will be a softer ring and more prone to damage, but if you have sensitivities that's the best plan.

You might want to take a look into antique rings (don't worry, you can always adapt them to make them unique for you) may well be less ####### mixed in with them.

Buying jewelry online is not something I would advise if at all possible. IMHO an engagement ring/wedding band is supposed to be around a long time, therefore it's a good idea to invest in something that's not going to need replacing, even if that means (as in my case) saving up for a while to get it.

I am also...my ring finger gets all puffy and red, but i am thinking that its due to needing to be resized. if that doesnt work then I will try the clear nail polish.

I recently developed an allergy to sterling silver. Which unfortunately I prefer over gold :P

My wedding band is white gold and hasn't bothered me, but a claddagh ring that we got in Scotland last year, which I had worn for several months, all of a sudden started burning my finger after I was started on anti-thyroid medication :( I can't wear it on my finger anymore, so I wear it on a chain round my neck. Most of the time it sits over my shirt so it hasn't bothered my skin there. I also haven't been able to wear any earings that have nickle in the posts. Which is most costume jewellry of course. Gold seems to be ok.

If you've never had a metal allergy before, perhaps there is some underlying reason for the reaction, like hormonal changes or whatever.

wow.. Its kinda funny you wrote this :)

That EXACTLY is what happened to my finger.. to the point i had to take it off and let it heal - actually I felt too bad to REALLY take it off... so I switched it to the other hand.. I think I had to do that twice.. BUT lol.. a year later  my finger FINALLY stopped reacting to it.. ALhamdulillah

AND I took it to a jeweler cause I was convinced the ring was fake... BUT it wasnt :) It is a white gold from Italy.

AND i also started making sure after I washed my hand.. I especially dried that ring area.. made sure there was no soap residue.. and dry.....
