Ah, just doesn't get easier. We filed the form online so now we wait I suppose.

 

I didn't become us citizen as I'd have to give up my Norwegian at the time and that was not a real option. That changed this year with retro effect so could have, would have and so on. 

 

We are not looking forward to up to a year of this processing but is it really true that it's not advisable to travel to US while I-130 is processing using a visa waiver?

Nothing is preventing travel, you are always subject to normal entry requirements

You can visit the US during the process. Just keep in mind it is up to the CBP on whether or not you’re allowed to enter. Taking proof of ties to Norway with you is good (employment letter of when you’re expected back, lease or car payments, etc). My husband visited once during the process, after NOA2 and before NVC, he had no proof of ties to Denmark besides his return flight and was taken to secondary questioning but was ultimately let in once he mentioned the visa process and that he would be interviewing in Sweden. Not that this will be the case for everyone, but that was our experience
