Hi, I read somewhere on the forum that in Mumbai, the sponsor is required to have 3 years of qualified income. I was wondering if this is the same case for Vietnam. I will send in income for 2016, 2017, and 2018. Excluding 2019 because I'm not able to file taxes for last year yet. In 2016, I just graduated from college and only worked for the last few months, so my income was below poverty guideline. In 2017 and 2018, I was making over 3x the poverty guideline. Do I need a joint sponsor?

Does the CR1 require the I-864?  My wife came over on a K1 visa but I filed the I-864 when I did her Adjustment of Status.  The I-864 instructions explicitly states: "Federal Income Tax Return Information. You must provide either an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcript or a photocopy from your own records of your Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year. If you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income, you may submit transcripts or photocopies of your Federal individual income tax returns for the three most recent years."  So the I-864 makes 3 years of tax returns optional, but only providing 1 year is mandatory.

The income requirements are the same regardless of the country.

Yea I always thought that was the case - income requirements and number of years is the same regardless of country. I just read that in Mumbai, India they're requiring 3 years of qualified income. Which got me worried...

The I-864 asks for 3 years of income on page 5, but only "requires" 1 year.  Send one and by the time of your interview, you might have 2019, so be prepared to show 2019, 2018, and 2017.   - Jason

Makes sense, I will bring 2019 to the interview.

The I-134 is kinda specific to K1s.  Its a 'pre-filter' to deny the visa if you cannot satisfy the AOS poverty limits of the I-864, which you will have to file after marriage to stay in the US.
