I have an appointment with a social worker next week but she wont know the immigration requirements for AOS

Yes, although not via the marketplace/exchange unless there is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Private plans exist as well, although usually not worth the paper they're written on unless you are willing to really pay up.

Gaining/Losing coverage through an employer qualifies as a QLE for both the marketplace and employor-sponsored plans.
