A guy sees another guy sitting on a park bench, crying bitterly.

First guy sits next to crying guy.

"There, there," he said consolingly.  "What's the problem, buddy?"

"My third wife just died, as did the first two," sobbed the other.

"Oh, how terrible!" said the consoler.  "How did the first one die?"

"She ate poisoned mushrooms," sniffed the sad guy.

"Awful!" said the consoler.  "How did the second one die?"

"She also ate poisoned mushrooms," sobbed the sad guy.

"What a terrible coincidence!" said the consoler.  "And the third?"

"She was strangled," said the sad guy.

"Strangled?!" said the consoler.  "How did that happen?"

"She wouldn't eat her mushrooms."

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So I have a friend of a friend who is currently in Tehran getting married. (How's that for timing?) Both my friend and his friend are Iranian-American; my friend was born here, his friend came as a baby. Anyway, I checked in with my buddy to see how his buddy is doing, since I've been thinking about the groom a lot over the past few days. According to the groom, do NOT believe everything that is being shown on TV about a gazillion Iranians rising up in anger and thirsting for revenge. He said in Tehran, people were happy to have a day off work, and the vast majority of people just did their own thing, chilled out, partied (!!!!), etc. We are getting fed a very different narrative than what this guy is seeing on the ground, right there in Iran. He's American as can be, typical young LA Persian dude (if you've ever seen Shahs of Sunset, like that -- as is my friend...). Sure, a bunch of people are out there protesting but most people are just continuing to live their lives and think it's not going to come to anything, and didn't care about the assassination very much.

From their text conversation, so you can see how seriously they take this:

I am not surprised...I have an ex who is half iranian and neither her nor her mom support what this regime does. There are also plenty of Iranians living outside of Iran who will tell you the same thing(but those who live there can't, really). That's exactly the troubling part though - you have people in the west protesting what the people who were actually hurt by this guy, support. And this isn't the first time, and he isn't the first guy. The self-righteous western far left is terrible at actually realizing what the people it's trying to "protect" actually want or need.

If it gives you any further context, both my friend and his buddy over there are Persian Jews. I find it interesting that even people who might feel even more in the targets of the regime on the ground there are just... meh. My friend checked in with me yesterday night and said that he's way more worried about the attacks on Iraq by Tehran than what happened to Soleimani.

The whole Iranian thing will burst at some point, the Imams will have to become more and more progressive to keep a cap on things but they can not do that for ever.

Have we really gotten to the point that I am better about staying on topic than one of the mods?

Wow, really new year, new me.

I think it is bit too early to make that call, let us give it some time.

We should make this not about me.

I think it's important to point out here that the regime didn't call for a bounty, but the person eulogizing Soleimani on state TV. There's a difference. https://heavy.com/news/2020/01/trump-iran-bounty-head/

I think a certain mod would have a lot of catching up to do, for that to happen
