Hi guys,

So you might have read something similar a thousand times already, and I do apologise for that.

I'm going to visit my bf in the states from Malaysia and this is the first time I'm visiting the US (I know....I've spent the past 10 years visiting London and Europe and other Asian countries duh maybe I should've visited the US).

My bf has visited me once last year and this year and now it's my turn to go, and we're going on another trip at the end of the year to Taiwan, and in 2021, he's going to visit me in Malaysia again.

The thing is, I know I'm going to get interviewed, so is there a chance they might see me "differently" if I was telling the truth and saying I am visiting my bf?
Because I'm going to stay at his house, and we're going to his parents house for 2 days of my trip when I'm there.

Will I need to show proof of documents he owns a home and all that? I know I have to show bank statements and tickets and stuff and employment letters (which I can obtain no problem).

You can only be 100% honest about the reasons for your visit. If it is to see your bf, so be it.

And your visitor visa is based on YOU and your ties to your home country (reasons that you need to go back to Malaysia).

Your bf does absolutely nothing. Nothing is needed by him. Think about it.... did he have to show employment letters and bank statements when he came to visit you in Malaysia? Did you have boyfriends in Europe that showed their home ownership when you visited there? Nothing is done by him.

You pretty much have to convince the officer interviewing you that you are not going to use the visitor visa to come over to the US and live and/or work. The reason why it is difficult to convince officers of this when the foreigner has a bf/gf, is because it is easier to use the bf/gf to help "set up shop" in the US. This is the perception that you must overcome.

Hope this makes sense.

Basically no different to going to London.

Actually UK is worse paperwork wise - needed a pile of documents when I applied for my wife.

-bank statements

-house deed

-itinerary

Least no interview was necessary for the UK visa.

Not for a Malaysian because we have visa free for visiting and travel in London. we can just get a flight ticket and fly there without visa. XD

but, @Srose87, like the previous answers, answer truthfully, on why you are going for the visit, best to know your travel plans. Not sure how long your trip is but make sure you know roughly the plans of travel for entire trip etc. ex: places your bf plans to bring you go visit etc.

it’s good that you have met him before and also have future travel plans.
and in my experience, they checked my flight tickets for proof of return flight and bank account. Plus, the employment letter is definitely important. I remember telling them I was going over for Christmas then he would come over for Chinese New Year.

most important thing is being able to convince the officer that you will be returning to Malaysia.

They might ask about your future plans, during my interview in the past I honestly told them we were considering 3-5 years to get to know each other better before deciding on marriage etc and will decide between the k1 or cr1 visa in the future If we decide to move our relationship to the next level.

Oh and they will probably ask how you met him.
