I-90 how long from invalid GC mailed back to USCIS (per their request) to receipt of new GC?

we submitted I-90s months ago (USCIS mistakes).

we recently received requests (no form numbers, just letters) from USCIS to mail the invalid GCs (USCIS mistakes) to Potomac Service Center.

The letter subject was 'REQUEST FOR ORIGINAL' .

we take it that this is a sign of some progress.

questions:

(1) Does USCIS require the old GCs be mailed back to USCIS before issuing new ones?

(2) if the answer to (1) above is yes, how long before the new GCs are issued?

thanks

1.  Yes.  The original card should have been sent back along with the I-90......

2.  I would anticipate several months up to a year.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

We had been told to simply fill out the online I-90 forms and submit them. Regardless, thanks for pointing that out.

next:

the letters we received in question (1) mentioned above had the letters addressed to the 'correct names' we supplied on the I-90s (not the invalid names that we were requesting be corrected) - that is: the USCIS mistakes were removed/corrected.

(3) given the name changes made (corrected), could it mean that  some/most of the work for the I-90 might have been done (if the names have been corrected in the USICS system) and the request for the GCs might simply be the last step in completing the cases (a loose end)?

It's possible.....I would certainly overnight the cards back......maybe they will produce the new ones immediately.

sent 12/17/2019

received and signed for by Potomac Service Center on 12/18/2019.

online case status looks to have been updated 12/26/2019 saying the documentation was received.
