Not sure but from reading various posts on here I would allow 5 working days min. The other aspect is the unforseen glitch which could create even more expense if you have to rearrange flights??? Its a toughie if you want to fly so soon after the interview. good luck

IT really can depend but I'd hold off on buying it, you never know if you'll get a hold up (I got RFE'd at the embassy).

Good luck with your interview though!

We perhaps a little foolishly have already booked our flights, but as they're 2 months after the interview to the day we figure even something really dastardly that popped up at the interview would be remedied by then.

Bruce is so spooked by the interview he refuses to even countenance the real fact that we WILL be approved! He walks around like Eeyore saying, "Oh, I'm never going to see America again" and "Don't talk about what our life might be like over there because I'm not going to be approved". HUH? Clean police cert, healthy, educated, and demonstrably in a relationship with me as we have lived together for almost a year -- what more does he want?

Oh god, I wish it was next Tuesday already and we were done with all of this. I want my happy husband back -- I think mine has been swapped with a morose replicant!

My fiance's interview was this past Friday - they told him it'd be Weds or Thurs before he'd get his passport back. We'll let you know when he gets it - but we're waiting to book until then, too. Sucks cos he may get a bad seat on the flight over, but oh well.

Better that than having a non refundable ticket and no passport...!

It took ours 13 days and I believe Mags might have taken longer (maybe she will pop in). I would not suggest buying tickets until you know for sure that visa is going to be in hand. So long as you book your tickets a couple of weeks out you should still be paying the same price. Of course you can always book them and pay the $200 fee to change them if the visa doesn't arrive, we just didn't have that kind of money to toss away.

My interview was on a Thursday and the courier delivered my passport back the following Wednesday. I'd say that unless you're the type of person who enjoys that kind of stress, don't book anything 'til that passport & visa are safely in hand! It seems like people generally get their passports back within the week, sometimes sooner, but... it's definitely not unheard of, not even unusual, for it to take longer than that... if I'd have booked my flight before I had my visa in hand, I'd have just felt like I was tempting fate!!

I know it's frustrating when you can see the fares going up, but... it is still sometimes possible to get good prices at very short notice, but even if you choose to wait a bit longer and get a cheaper fare, it's not the end of the world. I know after all that waiting you want to be together ASAP and just get on the next flight out of there, but in the greater scheme of things, what's a few extra days? All that waiting and separation will be over soon enough!

Oh yeah - good luck at the interview! :)

Thanks that would be great I thought as I live in London it may arrive a little quicker. Is there a facility that you can pay to express the delivery?

I was living a less-than-10-minute bus ride from the Embassy, was approved without any problems on the day (8am interview, mine was the first immigrant visa interview of the day!) and it still took a week for me to get my passport back. So I wouldn't bank on living in London speeding things up, unfortunately! There's no express delivery (sadly) unless I'm remembering wrong, you can just pay extra to have it delivered before 8am/10am/noon (something like that... the earlier in the day you want delivery, the more expensive it is).

Here are the delivery fees, just FYI! :)

If I remember correctly the courier will deliver it the day after they receive it from the Embassy. You can pay extra for it to be delivered by a certain time on the delivery day, but there is not an option for the Embassy to expedite putting the visa in the passport.

When I had my interview last October the courier took my mobile number and text ed the night before to say delivery next day. I lived in London and it was back in 3 days.

My interview was last Thursday, I paid for delivery before 8am (an extra £20) and I got the visa Saturday at 7.50am. Pretty quick! I wouldn't book the flights till you've had the interview, unless you book refundable flights, and they won't save you any money anyway.

Thanks for all your help I wasn't intending to book any flight until after the interview but will hold off and wait patiently till my passport is in my hands.
