Help!!!

What are the requirements for the Canadian Police certificate? My interview is next week and I just read somewhere that not all the RCMP police certificates are accepted? Will my visa be denied???

Yes, you need the correct one.  Follow link, scroll to correct category and read all about it

You will need the finger-print based police check under the privacy act! If you do not have it, you will likely be given the 221G and have to send it to them once you obtain it. Mine took 2 weeks to get. Here are some posts where we discussed it more recently!

My one is fingerprint based it doesn’t say that it is the Privacy Act type. The type of application is: landing immigrant status

YOU MUST STATE THAT YOU ARE REQUESTING THE RECORD UNDER THE PRIVACY ACT.  Do not select “Visa/Border Crossing” as the purpose of the request. You must also specifically request the record which includes the “RCMP National Repository entire holdings.”

YMMV

When I got mine done, I had to specify that it was under the privacy act.

The linked provided by @payxibka shows this info., and it's what I followed when I got mine.

Special Seal(s) / Color / Format: The Certified Criminal Record Check requested under the Privacy Act is fingerprint-based, but the report does not include an image of the applicant’s fingerprints.

Procedure for Obtaining: To obtain this document, you must submit your fingerprints to a local police service or RCMP-approved partner agency.

I quoted the whole procedure to the woman doing my fingerprints because it can get a bit confusing. Your best bet is to get the fingerprint check under the privacy act asap to avoid any more delays if you do not think you have the right one.

The police check itself was very short. People posted their examples here:

I second this. I even printed a copy of the instructions from the Dept of State website (linked above) just to avoid any more confusion, considering my local RCMP station isn't located in the most cosmopolitan of areas. 😛

Make sure it also says, under Privacy Act Request Type, "Other (Provide Details)"

Recommended but not necessary. For example, mine said "For Suspended Record" even though I don't have a criminal record and it was accepted (although it may be because my check came back clean).

Others have had theirs rejected if it wasn't this specific one, so while it's not always necessary, it's better to have this one just in case. No one really knows why or how the consulate is handling these but for whatever reason that's the only one that hasn't been rejected by a CO (as of late).

Is there a source? I know people have been issued a 221g for providing the wrong check but I've yet to see a rejection from having a different Privacy Act Request Type. My comment was meant to calm anyone who, perhaps following your recommendation, still ended up with something other than "Other". I didn't know that we could specify the request type when I did mine (Dec 2018), and don't want to give false assurance if Montreal is truly getting strict on this part now. In any case, having "Other" is probably for the best.

There's a group of Canadian filers that are sharing their process and experiences and that's been the biggest topic. A bunch of people had their police certificate rejected for being the "wrong" one while some had theirs accepted. No one really knows why or how the CO is making the distinction. But we've gathered that the "other" type is the only one that's not been rejected.

So the source is simply a collection of filers over the last 6-8 months who have gone to interviews.

I'd encourage anyone reading this to make sure they have that police certificate as well just in case.

And you can request the one that says other. I even printed off an example of it and brought it to Commissionaires but the agent there already knew exactly which one I needed.
