Hi everyone,

I am so lost on the household size for the I-864 in the AOS.

So I am the main petitioner for my husband.

In item 1, the number is 1 because he is the main immigrant I am sponsoring.

However, I also have to put "1" next to item number 3 because I am married, but my household size will still be 2.

In the instructions it says to put 0 in item 3 only if you are unmarried. So I am confused what numbers I put where. Please help!

See that line that says “persons not sponsored”?

If your husband is sponsored, he is not listed again in the “persons not sponsored”.

So you list your husband as a sponsored immigrant on line 1, then add yourself, and your household size is two.  Your husband is not listed on line 3.

Correct.

That's why you leave 3 blank and elaborate in the additional info section.

Please help!

This is a very common question. The VJ search bar will be helpful in answering.

I never thought of adding this info.  I'm sure it can't hurt but I didn't fill this part out, for this question, and our application was approved.  I agree, the way that question is worded makes it confusing. So many questions on these forms are intended for more than one type of visa. You would put a "1" for #3 if you are married, but sponsoring someone who is not your spouse, which is not your case.

This form is used for a lot of other AOS types, not only K1. Just put 0. You don't need to write anything else.
