Hi all!

I just filed my N400 online based on 3 year residency and marriage. I've been eligible for almost a year but there was so much going on that I pushed it for too long. I wish I had done it sooner so I could definitely vote, but now there's a slimmer chance for that.

What I submitted for marriage evidence was tax returns, saving and checking statement, mortgage statements, healthcare benefits showing my wife as a dependent and driver licenses showing the same address.

Either way, fun being back in the waiting game with USCIS, hopefully it won't take too long and this will be the last time!

Hey guys,

What documents are you guys planning on sending as proof of the union/living together? I'll be filing based on the 3 years of marriage soon but am worried about the additional documentation required because

- we don't own a car so no lease/auto insurance.

- the apartment lease is in my name as we didn't think about the proof-for-n400 aspect of things when we signed up; so it doesn't have the wifey's name either :(

- we don't have a joint bank account since I just setup a bank account when I immigrated initially and have been lazily using the same account for direct deposits for my salary.

That leaves us very little documents to send e.g. i can think of just

- our medical insurance; where there are separate letters coming in for my wife and I  (from the insurance compnay) ; both letters are sent to our apartment (same address)

- our separate personal credit card bills (addresses to the same apartment) but no joint anything 😕

- outside of that, there's our kids birth cert

- and our family photos as we go out on weekends sometimes.

- our driving licenses both registered for the same address (but since we don't have a car, my wife didn't update her address on her driving license for almost 2 years (even after we moved to our own apartment) and it still kept pointing to her parent's address; where she lived earlier while I was abroad and in the process of immigrating)

That's a pretty thin stack of documents and it has me worreid.

I still have about 3 months left to file so I'm not sure if opening a joint bank account at this point will help much. What else would you guys recommend?

Submit multiple documents that show you live in the same apartments. You can always attach an explanation in a cover letter saying:

"Credit card/bank accounts statements/bills of both myself and my wife showing same residency" etc.

But I think photos of you together, with you dating them and a short descriptions is always good, and of course a joint child is always proof :D

Did they approve your 10 year green card?

Checked USCIS today and saw the receipt notice had been generated. Estimating case completion time of December 2020 - 11 months. Hoping it decreases as we go along.

Hello everyone,

Just found this forum last week - better late then never LOL

I was approved my I-751 and 10 year green card (based on marriage) on December 19th, 2019. My window for citizenship opens on January 27th, 2020. I had a lawyer for the whole immigration process since the beginning however I decided to submit my N-400 by myself. My question is regarding part 8 of the application regarding employment history. I have been self employed for several years now (paying my income taxes etc) and I am not sure what date should I put under "Date from" ? They are asking for the past 5 years. Since I was self employed for more then 5 years and nothing changed should I put "date from" when I received my work authorization EAD ? Or would it be my temporary 2 year green card date ? Or would it be the day that I opened my corporation - several years ago ?

I appreciate all your help :)

I understand it to be “at least” 5 years, so if you have been self-employed for the same business for 7 years (for example), you would put the date from 7 years ago.

My application will have a job listed from 2012, which goes back 8 years, because that’s how long I worked at that business before immigrating.

Thank you for your response, thats what I was thinking and even though I wasnt suppose to work and didnt have my work authorization I am supposed to put a date when I have opened the corporation :) not when I got approved to work

1.)  A decision cannot be made on the N400 until a decision is made on the I751, but they may combine them for a combo interview;

2.)  Put all addresses for the last 5 years, inside and out of the US;

3.)  Put all work, education, and periods of unemployment covering the last 5 years, inside and out of the US;

4.)  If you have not departed the US, put N/A, but same as above, for the period before you came to the US, add in any travel outside your home country (is.  If you took a trip to Australia, etc)

Try not to overthink the application.  Just read the questions, and answer them as accurately as possible.  :)

Hii all, I'm starting to complete this form as I have been married with my husband for 3 years. This might seem an odd question. I was thinking in completing the form electronically but some parts of the form are locked and I cannot edit in adobe. For example, the A# on top of each page - I can't edit that online. Is it okay if I complete most of the form online and then print and complete the rest with a black pen? Thank you, Andrea

You can do that. On the PDF file, you only enter the A# once. The A# will show automatically on the top of each following page. Did you consider creating an account on USCIS and filing online?

The immigration process caused me PTSD.

Thank you Deagle :) I think i'll do it online, it looks like everyone is doing it that way and seems easier.

Saves you on postage fees, if nothing else :) And eliminates the worry that they will misplace a paper copy.
