Please do not quote me on this, but I think if you take a proof of citizenship with you and your ID (with your current address) on the day of election, they would register/allow you to vote! I think but I am not sure.  I think the idea of registering you in advance is that so you don't have to prove you are a citizen everytime. You may want to check this information first before taking it. You could let us know if it worked!

Hi thanks! In my state (MD) you can indeed register to vote in person during early voting and on election day, with proper identification. We plan to visit the polls during early voting. Always good to check with your local board of elections as it varies so much!

I wonder how accurate that is. As you can see, my last update was Feb 12 2020 for biometrics. I was never scheduled an interview, so I'm guessing this 12 days estimated is for them scheduling out that interview.

This is how accurate it is - I did biometrics on February 4th, this is my current view:

my estimated case completion time was September 2020, and the little countdown went down as well until it disappeared. At the end of September, my estimated case completion time disappeared as well 😅

It might just switch to "we are taking longer than expected" when the 12 days are up. My status switched to that on Oct. 1 (I filed in February and did biometrics in early March). I feel like right now it's impossible to know, things happen when they happen. I do still have a case completion time of December...We'll see what happens.

All done! Spouse had his oath ceremony on Wednesday the 28th. It was delayed about an hour because the Secretary of Labor ended up attending and giving a speech. I waited out front of the building the whole time and was a one-person cheering section as the new citizens started coming out waving their little flags. So proud and happy for all of the new citizens and their families. It was a much-needed moment of joy and relief in these times to see everyone celebrating outside.

We did end up going to an early voting center later that day. Spouse, with naturalization certificate in hand, was able to register and vote that day. In all, it took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Again, we are in Maryland, so please check with your local voting centers to see what the situation is.

I am so thankful to everyone on VisaJourney for your kindness, empathy and openness throughout this process. It is not an easy journey. And just as I thought I might be done with VJ, I realize I’ll be hopping over to the passport application posts. I wish you all the best in your journey!

Hello All VJ followers!

I wanted to give you all an update and share my interview experience today! First of all, I passed the interview and now waiting for the final paperwork to get my certification :D

I had my interview today at the USCIS in Tampa. I was called in few minutes after getting there for my interview. The  officer took me to his office and then the interview started. These were the questions:

- Name the US war between the North and South?

- The idea of self-goverment is in the first three words of the constitution. What are these words?

- We elect a U.S. senator for how many years?

- Name one state that borders Canada?

- Who is the father of our country?

- What is the name of the president if the United States now?

I answered all six of them correctly and he moved on to the reading section. I had to read from the iPad "We elect congress" and then I was asked to write on the iPad "The people elect congress"

After answering all the questions, he asked me several yes or no questions. Those are the same questions that I had to answer on my N-400 form.. like have I been to prison, etc.. He then confirmed some information and I ultimately signed the Oath. I assume I am a U.S. citizen now? I just don't have my certificate? Any ways, he mentioned that I have to come back to pick up my certification and gave me a paper congratulating me for answering all the questions and because I was eligible for naturalization.

I am happy to be almost over with this process and hopefully get an update in the next few days about my next appointment for the "ceremony".

Good luck to everyone taking their interview this month and feel free to ask me anything if you have any questions.

Hello All,

I had my interview on 10/28 in Fort Myers, Florida and had the oath ceremony the same day! I know they had at least 2 ceremonies that day (and think they had more).  Interview was scheduled for 10:10 a.m. and the oath ceremony was scheduled for 2 p.m. in the same building. Small ceremony with no guests and only 10 new citizens. There was very little ceremony and was basically a brief introduction, the oath and receiving the certificate. After the stress of the whole process I was so relieved for it to be over, but maybe a little disappointed that it was less of an 'event'.

As far as I can remember the civics questions were:

Who is the current VP?

Name a state that borders Mexico.

Name two rights of people in the US.

When do male citizens have to register for Selective Services?

And... I can't remember the other 2.

Can't remember what I was asked to read and write either!

It was a straight forward process. Slight delay in the interview starting due to slow system issues, but no hitches once I was called by the officer.

I wanted to thank you all for sharing your experiences and being an amazing resource for information, advise and support.

Best of luck with you all on your journey to citizenship.

Colette

So I'm a dummy. I've been gathering my documents for my interview. I had all our tax return stuff but because my husband handles it for us, I didn't realize the tax transcript isn't the same as the tax return you mail in. No biggie, just go download the tax transcripts, right? We got 2017 and 2018, but it's showing we didn't file this year, but we did, and we already paid our owing taxes. Ughhhhhhhhh. My husband is on the phone with the IRS right now.

I'm trying not to stress out TOO much because it seems like they don't always ask to see this stuff anyway?

IRS is 6 months behind in processing returns and the transcript won’t be available until it has been processed. Don’t stress it, just bring 1040 and all W2 and 1099 for 2019 instead. USCIS officers know about this I’m very sure :)

Also include a copy of your bank statement showing you paid your taxes.
The reason they want transcripts is that they show that you actually filed.

Well that makes a ton of sense, because we filed in July. Thank you very much for this, you have saved me about 72 hours of stressing.

Will do. I also have an IRS account transcript, showing us with a credit balance for the amount our tax return forms say we owed, so that should be good proof too.
