Hello everyone,

My wife got her Green card through our marriage 5 years ago. Technically, she was eligible to apply for US Citizenship 2 years ago...But, we procrastinated. Now, we decided to apply this month.

While applying, we noticed under eligibility that we can either select one of following

1. Permanent Resident for 5 years OR

2. Permanent Resident for 3 years and married to US Citizen spouse.

I'm wondering which option should we select ?

Option 1. If she has been a permanent resident for 5 years she is eligible without the marriage, there is also less evidence to bring with you to interviews etc.

Completed my N400 process!

I had my interview yesterday Lawrence MA field office. My appointment was at 9:30am, I checked in at 9:10am. They called me around 10:05am. The interview took around 20mn, everything went well, I passed and he asked me to wait for the oath ceremony. They called us around 11am for the oath, they gave us our certificates after the oath. Thanks to God and thanks to everyone here.

Congratulations!

I'm gonna change my name. After my ceremony I will have a new first name. What are the places in order I need to go to update my name? I wanna vote this year!! My oath ceremony is on 9/23. My last day to register is 10/7

You will have to change your drivers license, social security card and all your credit cards and bank accounts, savings accounts, iras etc. You are probably able to register to vote as soon as you are a citizen (I did it online the next day) but if you plan to vote in person, you may need some form of ID to do so. Although, and I wasn’t aware of this at all, your naturalization certificate has your photo on it so that will work. I’d do this in the order I mentioned. Plus obtain a passport (I’d slot that in between DL and ss card).

Sounds too much of a hassle for a first name change but that`s just my opinion.

We applied for my wife's passport this morning. In case everyone doesn't know, they send your Naturalization Certificate with the application. We were assured that the certificate will be returned in original condition, not folded. We have decided to wait to update her Social Security Card  until the local offices open. Right now, we would have to mail documents to the local office and they would process, then send the documents back by mail. no way of tracking.

Hi! I have been called all my life by a nickname that has nothing to do with my name. I have never feel identified with my name. So I'd rather changed it :)

Great, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for the reply!
