VSC is moving fast they approved my ROC in less than a year with no interview or RFE.  They might approve you in couple weeks, are you considering waiting maybe you get approved before N-400?

Hey guys,

What documents are you guys planning on sending as proof of the union/living together? I'll be filing based on the 3 years of marriage soon but am worried about the additional documentation required because

- we don't own a car so no lease/auto insurance.

- the apartment lease is in my name as we didn't think about the proof-for-n400 aspect of things when we signed up; so it doesn't have the wifey's name either :(

- we don't have a joint bank account since I just setup a bank account when I immigrated initially and have been lazily using the same account for direct deposits for my salary.

That leaves us very little documents to send e.g. i can think of just

- our medical insurance; where there are separate letters coming in for my wife and I  (from the insurance compnay) ; both letters are sent to our apartment (same address)

- our separate personal credit card bills (addresses to the same apartment) but no joint anything :/

- outside of that, there's our kids birth cert

- and our family photos as we go out on weekends sometimes.

- our driving licenses both registered for the same address (but since we don't have a car, my wife didn't update her address on her driving license for almost 2 years (even after we moved to our own apartment) and it still kept pointing to her parent's address; where she lived earlier while I was abroad and in the process of immigrating)

That's a pretty thin stack of documents and it has me worreid.

I still have about 3 months left to file so I'm not sure if opening a joint bank account at this point will help much. What else would you guys recommend?

IRS tax transcripts showing that you file as “married”. (Whether separate or joining).

Copies of your state tax returns.

I believe the N400 doesn’t require all the evidence up front, but rather to bring to the interview, so I would open a joint banking account ASAP, use it regularly, and then you’ll have some statements built up by the time the interview comes.  Do the same for credit cards - add eachother as an authorized user, and photocopy the physical cards to show both names having the same account number.

Have your spouse added to the lease.  If it can be backdated (or they include a “residing at ____, since (date)”.

If your health insurance is the same policy, provide proof of that. (I know this varies - the insurance I have currently shows both names on the card, but previously, under another policy, it just bore one name).

Wills/PoA’s are helpful in this situation, though if you don’t have many assets to be divided, a will may be an unnecessary expense, however, since it’s pretty simple, it would be on the lower end of the cost spectrum from an attorney (or diy online with something like legal zoom).

If you have any 401k or life insurance policies (private or from an employer) showing the other spouse as a beneficiary.

Maybe something from your child’s school showing you both live together.  Affidavits from friends/family.  Both of these, in my mind, are weak evidence, but, can help supplement a rather thin file.

USCIS seemingly wants proof of marital Union by way of finances and cohabitation, which, I understand every couple is different, so use any covering letter to explain the deficiencies you have.

Checked USCIS today and saw the receipt notice had been generated. Estimating case completion time of December 2020 - 11 months. Hoping it decreases as we go along.

For the online application, can you confirm if it’s just the front/back of the gc, marriage certificate, and tax transcripts?

First it should be noted that you do not upload the pdf form. You will fill out the application online. It will ask the questions in sections, then go to the next page.

In the Employment/ Education section, you have to account for full 5 years, even if you are filing under the 3 year rule. This includes time when unemployed.

Those are the items specifically asked for. There is a place to add additional evidence. We included bank statements since the filing of the I-751, and some health insurance info, because she had her insurance at work, but is now on mine.

Evidence can be uploaded as pdf or images. I don't remember all of the image formats, but we uploaded the marriage certificate and my birth certificate as jpg. There is a 6mb file size limit for each file.

Also, there is a place to upload evidence for name change. It gives a warning box if you don't upload anything, saying processing could be delayed. We just uploaded the marriage certificate again.

I checked both sites, and there is a receipt number for the filing. It is IOE9350XXXXXX.
