I found this old thread about it but wanted to ask if somebody has some newer experiences with getting a DL in Mississippi on a K1. The homepage is not a big help since there's only information on how to get a DL while on a work or student visa.

Have a look at the DMV web site, some States allow a K1 to get a DL with a NOA, some have a license for Illegals you can get most want to see EAD.

A non-U.S. citizen must meet all requirements for obtaining an operator’s license or identification card as applicable. The license or identification card will be valid as determined by the applicant's length of stay or no more than 4 years.

You must present valid immigration papers, including a birth certificate (translated by a Mississippi institute of higher learning or an approved translator), passport, proof of legal presence and two proofs of domicile.    need your I 94

I am normally pretty skilled at finding drivers license requirements and the requirements for new immigrants........but I'll have to admit that finding available information for Mississippi has stumped me.  I just don't find any specific information at all.......

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks for trying 😊 that's why I was hoping to find somebody who recently went through it. Guess we'll wait for the SSN and NOA1 to arrive and see if that will work.

Just got back from the DMV. Had problems with the proof of residency. Had about a hundred of different letters ( last paycheck, my SS card still attached to the letter from the SSA, letters from USCIS, letter from Navy Fed, AMEX... ) but if it's not a water or electricity bill it's not a proof of residency down here in MS ( Ok there are other proofs too but nothing I can get that easily).

We should get both of these bills with my name on it this month so I'll try again after that. Maybe next time I can at least get a number to sit down and wait 😁

Ok time for an update on what I learned from the person I spoke to at my local DMV when getting my license.

One can get a DL with the I-94 but it will expire together with the 90 days. To renew it you'll need the EAD or a Greencard and the DL will be valid till their expiration dates. That's why one can't get a DL with the receipt notice of the AOS because it has no clear expiration date on it. Also everybody ( even if you move from another state ) has to do the written test in Mississippi. I forgot to ask about the road test ( they currently waive road tests because of Covid-19  so I didn't had to worry about it ) but the way some people drive down here the road test should be a piece of cake.

Also nobody even wanted to see my foreign DL, means I didn't had to surrender it and I'm happy about that cause it's valid for another 13 years. The MS drivers license clearly states "non US- citizen". I kinda have mixed feelings about that but it is what it is.

YMMV so I would probably still try even without the EAD or Greencard. It's not like one has a lot of things to do after coming here on a K1 so why not spend a day at the DMV 😂

In the UK you had toupdatee your address and could not use a foreign one, presumably it is different in Germany.

Yea we don't have an address on the license so it has basically no ID function except for age.

The UK Euro version has a paper counterpart that has your address on it,.
