Yes I’ve had my interview in October and was handed a 221 (G) slip because of a document that was missing which I sent immediately after. I have been in administrative processing ever since.

I wouldn’t read too much into the status yet...see what the consulate says. If it really was sent back to NVC then it will be returned to USCIS to expire (die). ISCIS does not review a returned I-129F by policy. The consulate would only return the petition if they believe it is now invalid - either in a hard requirement (possibly not free to marry, undisclosed criminal al activity by the petitioner, etc) or that the relationship is not legitimate.

I went through this... and I know exactly how you must be feeling. I would definitely email the embassy and check on any updates. Considering my scenario and others here, usually when the case is sent back means it has been denied. Lets hope this is not the case. Did they keep your passport? Did they say they need to go over your file once more and then make a decision? What was the document that was missing? What exactly happen?

They have my passport. I had a police certificate for border crossing which wasn’t the right one to have.. so I sent the right one for my K1 visa after along with my passport. I have never been arrested and have no criminal record. The lady at my interview just said to send the right document and everything would be fine.

Then I wouldn't worry.

My petition was valid until October, but since I have been in AP, my I-129F would technically be now expired.

It has been really stressful. At the interview the lady required another police certificate and my passport, when I sent the paperwork in, I was told the consulate agent had changed her mind and only required my passport after all. It made no sense to us why we were declined then if the document wasn’t needed after all. We’ve been waiting for about 9 weeks now and now I see it has been sent back to NVC and we’re really worried of being officially declined. We don’t understand the reasoning.

The CO can renew it while it's in AP. Whether they choose to do so or not is at their discretion - normally they do unless they are still waiting on action from the beneficiary.

As noted, don't read too much into the online status at this time. It's possible somebody hit the wrong option on a screen...it's certainly happened before. Try to get information from the consulate who should be able to tell you if they still have the case or not and its actual status (i.e. still pending, refused, etc.).
