Hello Everyone,

We applied form 1-751 form to remove conditions from my husband green card.  USCIS received it on Nov 25, 2019 and they send us an extension letter for 18 month. My husband's green card will expire in Feb 2020.  We have a travel plan that will require us 6 weeks outside USA. i read other posts says they used that extension letter when traveling with expired Green Card. We never traveled and kind of worried if my husband will face any issue when we come back . other concern is the processing time. i checked for Nebraska is over 15 months. will it take that long?  What if they send us requesting finger print or additional documents when we are traveling, what can be done?

Thanks for your help.

do you mean extension letter? thanks

Yes that is what they meant. The extension letter and expired green card are all that are required for re-entry.

There’s many threads on this.  The physical card AND the extension letter is sufficient for travel.

Yes, they will mail a notice for a biometric appointment.  I had about a weeks notice.  Yes, processing times are long - after 17 months you can call for an infopass appointment.  They will take the greencard and issue a passport stamp valid for 1 year.

1) sign up for updates and monitor your case online

2) have somebody pick up your mail

3) if you receive an appointment notice, contact USCIS as soon as possible to reschedule it (will be very difficult if you don't have access to the physical copy of the notice)

overall, long periods of absence are not advised. decide what's more important: to be away for 6 weeks or to take a short trip and/or be ready to come back in time for an appointment if it's scheduled
