I just realized this is the second anniversary of me joining VJ. Wow, my life has changed in two years. Back then, the ink had only just dried on my divorce decree, I was living in Berkeley on my own, and I wasn't even properly engaged to my husband. Back then I had no clue I would be completely uprooting my life and moving down south, COVID wasn't a blip on anyone's radar, and I had a job. I was also not paying for my own Netflix.

And neither did we! :P

Seriously, congratulations to a (usually) ray of sunshine, si LL ma'am.

Thank you! I wandered in here accidentally in defense of feminism (I think) after a couple of months of asking questions about whether my ex-MIL could cause any problems in filing for AOS and never left. I do feel like a complete n00b because I never know what any of these Great Moments in VJ History threads are referencing. Except Terrie and the used towel, that one I do know.

Seriously, Terrie and the Towel is fantastic and she 100% should have gone on 90 Day Fiance.

I miss Terrie, must admit I do not remember many of the others referenced.

It's been quiet in here hasn't it?

It's been busy for me. We decided that we'd buy a larger bed because the dog is having episodes nightly where his dementia takes over and he can't remember where he is and gets scared without me. We like our bed a lot but there's just not enough room for the three of us. The drugs they gave me to calm and help the dog through the night did not work that well. The only thing that helps is having the dog in the room with me, and if he has an episode I can just reach him quickly and calm him.

So we went mattress shopping which I absolutely hate. I was super disappointed. Low stock, poor quality of the brand I was looking for, prices have exploded. Everything was full of hybrids and they did a hard sell on my husband how it would totally help my bad back and give him good support. I was skeptical, it merely felt 'ok' and wanted to keep looking. There was no changing his mind on it so I thought whelp, sure... can we return it if we don't like it? Oh the salesperson made a big deal joking about that I was a fussy female customer and that of course we could return it but just give it a try.

I knew pretty well how I felt the first night but kept quiet for a few days and waited to see if my husband would say anything. Yep. He hates it. This mattress is the WORST. So I asked him if we could go to one of the big chain department stores that still sells mattresses and has no employees on the floor so you can try mattresses without being harassed by pushy people (seriously let me just lay here and THINK without STARING at me). I FOUND the mattress. It's just like our old one... but they hadn't any in stock. So then we went down to our local store and the guy was totally nice and let us try every mattress he had on the floor without bothering us. And I found the bed again, just with a different name. He gave us a fantastic discount, and it's much cheaper than this hybrid piece of crud. Now we just need to get it returned minus a restocking fee. The husband feels silly from the whole experience and is reminded to perhaps consider the opinion of his wife sometimes. BTW, my back is KILLING me. Haven't had a good night's sleep in days... can't wait to pitch this piece of junk.

A while back, I bought a full bed frame & headboard from an estate sale for $15, meant for the guest room.

Had a full boxspring, so needed only the mattress top.

Drove a long way to a mattress manufacturer and chose a very nice full top for $399 (incl. tax/delivery).

Employees are salaried, not on commission, so no pressure at all.

Finally put the frame together... and it was queen, not full, so needed a queen top AND box.

Found this out after mattress place's business hours... and delivery was the next day.

First thing in the morning, called the mattress place in a hurried panic.

Manager very calmly said, "I can help you with that," and he recalculated the math.

For $108 extra ($507 total), got the same style except queen and including the box.

Didn't have to repeat the long drive in; everything handled by phone.

Delivery was efficient and as promised.

Manager even thanked me for preventing a fruitless delivery trip with the wrong-sized top.

I almost certainly wouldn't have been able to order (= pay for) just a top piece at a retailer.

There probably would have been extra fees for recalculations, etc. -- or arguments.

Even on sale, probably would have paid double the price for an inferior product.

Thus, I really sympathize with you, Y ma'am; hopefully your back recovers soon.

We have no Ikea which is weird because you'd think it would be a thing. The closest one is many hours away, and I don't think the beds would be what we're looking for.

Yep I looked at those online options too, but it seems most are bed-in-a-box, hybrid, or foam models. I think after our trial with this current bed we've ruled that out as being the right sort for us. Though I have heard good things about Saatva but the price of their mattress rivals just about anything you can get in a store and you can't try it out first before buying.

We could have bought the mattress online directly from the manufacturer but the price is actually less buying it from a mattress store, once we haggled the discount from him. He told us these just came in from the showroom last month, apparently like everything else the cost for materials is going up. The bad mattress was a ridiculous price, and I thought my husband was crazy for paying that much, especially since I was skeptical that it would be truly comfortable. Usually he is so frugal, maybe it is the summer heat...

I haven't written much about this here, but I have been very ill for well over a month but am now almost recovered. It took nearly a month to get diagnosed with polyarthralgia, brought on by the unfortunate combination of fighting off an infection I did not know I had in my body with getting my first dose of Moderna and building up antibodies. It was way more than my body could handle (I am kind of a small person to begin with) and my white blood cells went into overdrive. I suffered from inflammation throughout my body that basically crippled me on some days, leaving me unable to walk and use my hands at times.

I have never suffered from physical pain like this before, and I will admit at times I went to some dark places. I felt like one of those dolls that have rubber bands in them so you can stretch out the limbs, and I was being stretched so that my joints were going to pop. Getting diagnosed wasn't easy -- for some reason, my veins decided they didn't want to give up blood and it took 6 attempts over a 10 day period until they could get enough out of me. Then I couldn't start taking the prednisone I needed until I was fully vaccinated plus two weeks, which meant I didn't start taking the pills until Thursday. Day three now and I am feeling almost better for the first time since April 25th.

I could not have asked for a better partner in life than my husband during this. He held me when I cried in pain, cooked me dinner when we had fresh food that had to be made, fed me when I couldn't hold a spoon or fork, massaged my joints and comforted me. He was scared but he did a great job of not showing it when I really needed someone to just be strong for me.

The good news was that I do not have lupus or any other autoimmune disorder, which is what the doctors feared. My general health is actually great according to the metabolic panel, and that was a relief. I have a follow up at the end of the month. I'm looking forward to being out in the world and feeling better after a terrible spring. You never know when life is going to throw you a curveball. I am grateful to be here and be on the way back to health.

Not really my place to tell you how to live your life, but if I may offer a small suggestion... next time try giving those drugs to the dog, might help more with his episodes.

Euro 2020 has started! We have an in house rivalry, I am an England supporter and unsurprisingly... he is not.

Pretty sure Scotland will disappoint everyone very quickly, and England will disappoint everyone a little bit more slowly. I mean, you don't want to surprise anyone by winning the whole thing!
