This has nothing to do be being politically correct, and it is in fact oppression by using a word like that to broadly describe a entire group of people.  There are plenty of words out there that can be used to describe the behavior.

who exactly do you think this group of people are?

"Karen" hasn't been paying attention I'm assuming, and decides to announce as loudly as she can that it is so rude that "these kinds of people" have 'cut in line'. Oh the type of disdain in her voice seems to mean something to me. She's going on and on about it. My eyes are about ready to pop in embarrassment for my entire species. My husband tries to defuse the situation by explaining, but it's too late. The. wife. is. ENRAGED. How dare this person accuse her of cutting in line and running her mouth and being stupid. HOW DARE SHE. I am now in the middle of catfight shouting match - and the wife is winning. It's like a fight from The Real Housewives. The husband is hanging his head in shame and trying to calm her, but she won't be defied. The Karen storms out of the line with swearing - how dare she be spoken to that way?

During taxi, the crew of a USAir flight departing for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose-to-nose with a United 727.  The irate ground controller (female) lashed out at the USAir crew, screaming, "Useless 2771, where are you going?  I told you to turn right onto Charlie taxiway; you turned onto Delta!  Stop right there!  I know it's difficult to tell the difference between Cs and Ds, but get it right!"  Continuing her lashing of the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting, "God, you've screwed everything up -- it'll take forever to sort this out!  You stay right there and don't move until I tell you to!  You can expect progressive taxi instructions in about half an hour, and I want you to go exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you!!!  You got that, Useless 2771?"
The humbled crew responded: "Yes, ma'am."  Naturally, the ground-control frequency went terribly silent after the verbal bashing of USAir 2771.  No one wanted to engage the irate ground controller in her current state.  Tension in every cockpit at LaGuardia was running high.  Shortly after the controller finished her admonishment of the USAir crew, an unknown male pilot broke the silence and asked, "LaGuardia ground... wasn't I married to you once?"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short- tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206: "Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."

The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.

Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now." Ground (arrogantly): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"

Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944 -- but I didn't  land

So with that, it is OK to denigrate a whole bunch of people?  I have no one in my family or friends named Karen either, but that does not keep me from seeing oppression when it exists or is artificially created.

Are you kidding here? Are people named Karen a protected class? Do you really understand the term oppression? Tell me this is a joke.

If you have not walked in their shoes how could you possibly know?

Sooooo quiet in here...

On my side, gearing up for what should have been our first Xmas as a married couple alone. Huzzah.* Alex is going to England to visit with his daughter and I do not begrudge him this, because it's been 9 months+ since he's seen her. And now with slightly relaxed quarantine rules on that end and a marriage certificate that will allow him to avoid quarantine outside of the US on this end, it makes sense to give her the best Xmas prezzie of all: Daddy. I am staying home since it doesn't make sense for us both to take on risks, and of course they don't have to let me in like they have to let him in. Just... sigh.

So if you see me around here extra mopey next week through New Year's, you'll know why.

*If you haven't watched The Great (on Hulu) yet, you really should.

There is no really fully appropriate preset reaction for this on VJ because it is something of a curate's egg I think!

Nah, I learned that one from my father. He is very decidedly and proudly not posh in the slightest. I am not posh either, I just married people who are. It doesn't really rub off fully, as both of my mothers in law will tell you.

Huzzah! 😉 I know it's dreadful, but try to make the most of the alone time that you've got. I spent so many years without my husband for xmas that sometimes it's still unbelievable he's really here every time.
