Wedding in two weeks! Alex asked what I'd like as my wedding present. I said, hmmm, a nice piece of jewelry, I'll send you an idea or two.

So I sent him this:

https://www.langantiques.com/art-deco-75-carat-multi-color-natural-sapphire-and-diamond-necklace.html

I see it as an investment -- we could always unmount all the gems and stuff them in our underwear when violent roving gangs of Antifa come to eat the rich in the coming months and we have to flee. :D

Can not go wrong with ammo.

We have an understanding about guns now that we are both comfortable with. He wants to hunt, which I am... well, okay isn't the right word, but it is a sport and it's one he took part in back home. (Yes, there are rifles in the UK, plenty of shooting going on.) He didn't want a handgun in the home, which is what I cared about for various reasons I won't get into. After he gets his green card, yes, he can have his gun.

What's so wrong about that VOR? We found a workable solution for us both. If anything I gave more because he still gets what he wants pretty much in total and I bent my own strongly held convictions about guns in the home.

Where will he keep his gun?

PS any thoughts on Gustin Hoodies?

This I'm going to have to disagree with vehemently.

From what I've read (and it's not a lot, tbh, so correct me if I'm wrong), guns are a part of this guy's life and who he is. It would be like marrying someone with a kid and saying you were "bending" in dealing with the kid. It would be kinda like if he had strongly held convictions about menstrual products and bent to accept them in the house under certain circumstances.

The key takeaway is, we don't get people the way we order a fast food meal, and I wouldn't pat myself on the back merely for accepting someone (that I plan on marrying , no less) as they are as if I'm tolerating it. That sounds, very bad.

We will cross the gun bridge when we get there. Assuming we file AOS before the end of the year (should take a month to get the marriage certificate back), I assume we're going to have another year until AOS is done unless something really crazy happens and things get processed faster. So we're talking early 2022. I trust him to figure out something that is workable by then.

Oh yeah, we were talking about the Gustin hoodies yesterday, and he is seriously thinking about getting one in navy. They look very cozy, and soon enough it will be sweater(ish) weather here. He didn't like that olive color for himself, he said he was worried he might look like his bilirubin levels were off.

Thank for the input here on this. The handgun thing was a joint decision -- neither of us felt having one at home was necessary. I am not comfortable around guns (just who I am) and he has a multigenerational family history of depression and suicide, to be honest. He said he doesn't think it's a great idea for him in particular to have handguns around for that reason, even though he's never been seriously ill that way himself. His choice, and I agree. It took a lot of discussion and honesty about why he enjoys sport shooting to get to a point where I can accept that for him having a gun for that purpose is something I feel... well, not comfortable, I will be honest. But I have bent on this, because I do not like being around guns but I do love my husband to be, and I want him to enjoy something that means a lot to him. We got there in the end.

Can he not get a gun as a L1 in CA?

I honestly have no idea. I just assumed you have to be a permanent resident at least.

I guess I could look it up, I know CA is strange.

I have a friend who is sans status, has quite a collection but his missus bought them.

Yeah, if he wants one, he's responsible for paying for it and keeping it stored safely. I said that to him and he said, oh yes, just like my six women on the side -- I pay for them and keep them stored so safely, you don't even know where they are.
