Glad that the problems seem to be identified, Y ma'am.  Let's hope for a return to normal doggie-spirits and full health.

Much better this morning. Wound is healing nicely and no longer looks festering. Had to stop the nausea meds today because he continued looking like he was going on a 'bad trip'... so far so good.

All this doggo talk + I think we need something a little less awful to think on = this.

Can we discuss alcohol and animals instead tonight?

I just discovered that my favorite hard cider has changed the formula to make it more 'healthy' and loaded it with artificial sweetener. Heartbroken. Now need to find alternatives that will never taste the same.

Just pour it thru a paper coffee filter, then add 6.9 drops of lemon juice = original formula.

Glad to hear your pup is on the mend. Which cider is it? I can't believe they would do that to a cider!

Rekorderlig. Used to be a wonderful cool and crisp taste... now reduced to overpowering chemical sweetener. There are other pear ciders I've tried, but none I've liked so much. Magners at times just tastes like juice, Angry Orchard isnt too bad. Crispin was a bit too tart. A few others were not impressive. Not tried Samuel Smiths.

Okay, I will have a think about this. I also have a friend who is something of a cider freak and she may have a couple of ideas.

I agree with you about Magners. :dead:

@yuna628: question. Was it just the pear flavor of the Rekorderlig you liked? I wasn't familiar with it, but you did mention pear, and perry is its own wonderful area to explore. I lived in the West Country for almost a year so I got to know some about it.

Yes just pear. Although I do love apple as well (Rekorderlig makes a spiced apple which can be hard to find at times). Samuel Smith is one brand of perry that is supposed to be good.

Ace is nice. Has she tried Woodchuck? A lot of variety there and really nice.

Okay, perry it is! Two come to mind that are over here that I see frequently at the liquor store are Crispin and Wyder's. I have had the Crispin, but not recently. I remember it being quite clear tasting, if that makes any sense -- the fruit shone through. I have not had Wyder's or the Samuel Smith.

Here's another one -- Ace -- which I have seen sometimes and which sounds so good I might pick up a six pack when I go to Total Wine later this week: https://www.totalwine.com/beer/cider/perry-pear-cider-/ace-perry-cider-pear-/p/11555126?s=1126&igrules=true

Edit: lol, I just saw you mentioned Ace after I wrote this, duh. :P

I am off to Big Bear tomorrow for some much needed solo time in the forest. Actual conversation this morning as we discussed my travel plans:

L: And on Wednesday, I'm going for a hike in the national forest.

A: On your own?

L: Well, duh, yeah.

A: At last! A fantastic excuse.

L: For what?

A: For you to get a gun.

L: WHAT? No. Why would I need a gun?

A: For bears.

L: [silence]

A: I'm being serious. [editor's note: he did not look serious]

L: I don't think I'm going to come across a bear, Al.

A: You'd have me believe there are no bears in Big Bear? Sounds like misleading marketing if you ask me.

I'm staying in Sugarloaf itself, across the road from a trailhead. Unfortunately the forest was closed yesterday afternoon as a result of that dumb gender reveal stunt. There goes the hike I had planned.

We used to go to Big Bear in the 90s and it's been a while since I was last there, which was probably about 10 or 11 years ago on a girls' weekend.
