06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We started Warrior Nun last night. The first episode... we both thought the acting was a little overwrought at the beginning, but it improved. I really like the woman who plays Ava, although she seemed to warm up into a completely indulgent lifestyle so quickly for a girl who had lived the life she had before. (Trying not to spoil anything.)

 

I am watching Welcome to Plathville right now while I wait for the pizza dough to come up to room temperature, another 48 hour rise. This show is... interesting. There's a sister who clearly thinks her lifestyle, education and parents suck. And the oldest son, who is like a blonder version of Kenneth from 30 Rock, looks delighted that he escaped into a marriage with an intelligent woman who's genuinely coo-coo about him. He's not rejecting his religion or his lifestyle completely, but he's making a space for himself in the world that fits him properly.

 

The parents seem awful.

Wait, you've never read any H.P. Lovecraft???? 😲

 

I found my dad's copy of Lovecraft's collected works when I was about 9 -- nightmares for 3 weeks after that but it was instrumental in making me a lifelong horror fan.
