I've been motivated by VOR and have been making bread almost every day for the past two weeks (with a house full of relatives).  Few weeks back I saw #25 and #50 sacks of bread flour in Sam's and Costco and laughed.  What could I do with that much bread flour?  Turns out I should have bought one.  These people go through a loaf a day, but of course there is almost nothing better than warm fresh bread.

Should have started that sourdough months ago but I never did.  I've just been making white, whole wheat, rye, and a white with seeds "multi grain".  I do cheat.  I was using my 20+ year old bread maker on the dough setting and then baking it in the oven.  Then my stepdaughter surprised me with a very nice high end bread maker a few days ago.  Tried it out to do the whole process including baking.....just not the same😒.  Brought the old maker to the Keys and it is still working.

When I get back to Naples I'll invest in the huge bag of bread flour!

Just as I offered to Laylalex, I would be glad to dry and send you some starter.  But you really have to read up on how to keep a starter alive, it takes effort.  As in feeding it weekly (or more often).  And a loaf of sourdough bread is a commitment, as it takes 36 hours or more to make a loaf, as opposed to 2-3 hours for regular yeast bread.  And to be done traditionally correctly, you need a dutch oven (I don't have one yet, been cheating using aluminum foil, but I WILL get a cast iron one soon).

Wildfires 'edge closer to Chernobyl nuclear plant'

Forest fires that have been burning for several days in northern Ukraine are now no more than a few kilometres from the abandoned Chernobyl nuclear plant, reports say.

Tour operator Yaroslav Emelianenko said one had reached the abandoned town of Pripyat, which used to serve the plant.

He said it was now just 2km (1.24 miles) from where the most dangerous waste from the plant was stored.

Greenpeace said the fires were much bigger than the authorities realised.

The NGO's Russia branch, quoted by Reuters, said the largest fire covered 34,000 hectares, while a second fire just a kilometre from the former plant was 12,000 hectares in area.

Mr Emelianenko also said that if the fire engulfed Pripyat it would be an economic disaster, as supervised tourist visits provided valuable revenue.

more at https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52274242

Pretty sure the first accident there was of a much worse magnitude than the loss of tourism dollars that a fire will produce.  But wouldn't it be ironic if the fire somehow weakened the concrete that is holding the nuclear waste inside the earth, and there was another eruption?

This naming thing is tough. Wife and I have been at it in trying to find names for our son, she's a lot less picky about it than I am. The few names I like have already been taken by close family members, and I refuse to name a single child of mine anything like this "Aiden"/"Kaden"/"Brayden"/"Raiden"/"Jaden" nonsense. To be fair, the wife is on the same page for those type of names, I'm just venting on how many variances of this name are all over the place, as I can't seem to go 5 names since 2000 without seeing one of them. At any rate, taking a break for the next few days on us looking for names (ourselves), then will be back at it again.

This is also your chance, CEHST, to put forth your ideas.. what do you recommend I name my son? I especially see this as a potential for those I disagree with to exact their revenge. 😂 So it's my third (and last) child, I have a daughter about done with third grade in elementary school and a son who is about to be the ripe age of two.

So.. also, while we've had the time, we've been going over plans for the house and how to accommodate family and family friends, more my in-laws than anything else. What seemed like a normal way to plan this has turned into chaos because of the virus ****. Nonetheless, my mother in law (who lives in Toronto, so other side of the country) of all people has insisted she'll drive if flights are still shut down by then. Interestingly, the last couple of times she's visited, she's had to go to the hospital. Two visits ago she had this sudden swelling of her hand/finger area between her thumb all the way up her forefinger, which also caused swelling around the whole hand, started looking grotesque. Took like two weeks to get the swelling down on that. Last visit (which immediately followed my son's birth) she used the new expensive cutlery set the wife got and dropped the knife which fell on her foot, cutting through to the bone. So I wrapped it up for her and took her to the ER. When we just discussed her trip in several months from now, last night, I joked with her that she has to come like "bubble boy" so she doesn't get hurt/sick and we're gonna hide all but the plastic cutlery.

I've always been a fan of gun names:

Ruger

Colt

Winchester

Remington

But don't name the kid Glock, he'll get beat up all the time.
