FYI... Alex accidentally led me to a supermarket full of flour today. He'd wanted a burger from Shake Shack, and we went to the one in WeHo instead of the nearby one because he wanted to get out and see something different. It is SO odd to see the streets this empty:

This is Robertson Boulevard near Willoughby, around the corner from Shake Shack, where we had an impromptu in-car picnic. Anyway, he suggested we try dropping in at the Bristol Farms near there to get some cheeses and meats, and he said, why don't you check to see if they have any flour? I have a feeling the people around here aren't of the home baking variety. I scoffed but you know what? He was right! Bags and bags of all-purpose flour. I got 10 lbs, which is more than enough for just us, really.

He told me of course he is right, that's what's he's here for, to be consistently and unassailably correct in all situations. I know he says it to wind me up, so I indulge him.

Well, first of all, he's not my husband. Yet. He could still escape! Second, it wasn't so much a command to obey, more like a suggestion that I keep my mind open. And he was right, and I was suitably grateful.

His result was COVID negative, however I'm not entirely confident that the doctors are trusting that negative result. He says they are still acting like he has it, but at the same time it doesn't seem like they still know what is affecting his kidneys and pressure. He was supposed to have a CT of his brain, but they did not want to put him in the machine until he was negative. Well he's negative but they still aren't giving him the CT. Still cannot get any information from the nurses and spent most of yesterday on hold because the lines are jammed. He also kept repeating that the COVID test is one of the most horrible tests he's ever had. We really do need to perfect this test and give doctor's confident that a negative means a negative...

On a positive note, I have accomplished quite a bit this past month.  Today, made a loaf of the best sourdough bread I think I have ever made.  Re-covered/sealed the driveway (not mine, I just rent the spot, but I bought the stuff to do the job), built a hydroponic ebb/flow system, hand-painted many, many nutsedge growths with roundup, planted some sod to boost grass growing in the front yard, fertilized the yard, bought lapping compound to sharpen the blades on my reel mower (still waiting on delivery), found 50# bags of flour at Costco that seem to be missing in CA (didn't buy because I still have 25 or 30 lbs left from a November buy on Amazon).  Made some carpaccio.  Grilled pork ribs as well as some prime NY Strip.  Caught some fish across the road from me until we had enough over a few days, then grilled said fish.  Wore a mask in Home Depot today (stupid new rule went into effect yesterday) and laughed at some of the people, one of which was an older lady walking around with the mask on her face, but pulled down under her nose (I have a lot of respect for those who perform 4-8 hour surgeries wearing masks all the time).   Have had four friends recover from covid.  Watched my wife take credit for my sourdough bread on FB.  Had another real life training episode of "Left hand dirty, right hand clean" with the wife today.  She's getting pretty good at it. Tomorrow, it will be time to bring the Kai Shun knives back to their razor-sharp status, and sharpen the steak knives.  Now that the hydroponic garden is functioning properly, need to get more/fresher seeds, as many I have had for years are not germinating well.

I was about to say. Wife made bread. I also saw video of her seal coating the driveway. Hmmmmm

I've been motivated by VOR and have been making bread almost every day for the past two weeks (with a house full of relatives).  Few weeks back I saw #25 and #50 sacks of bread flour in Sam's and Costco and laughed.  What could I do with that much bread flour?  Turns out I should have bought one.  These people go through a loaf a day, but of course there is almost nothing better than warm fresh bread.

Should have started that sourdough months ago but I never did.  I've just been making white, whole wheat, rye, and a white with seeds "multi grain".  I do cheat.  I was using my 20+ year old bread maker on the dough setting and then baking it in the oven.  Then my stepdaughter surprised me with a very nice high end bread maker a few days ago.  Tried it out to do the whole process including baking.....just not the same😒.  Brought the old maker to the Keys and it is still working.

When I get back to Naples I'll invest in the huge bag of bread flour!

Wildfires 'edge closer to Chernobyl nuclear plant'

Forest fires that have been burning for several days in northern Ukraine are now no more than a few kilometres from the abandoned Chernobyl nuclear plant, reports say.

Tour operator Yaroslav Emelianenko said one had reached the abandoned town of Pripyat, which used to serve the plant.

He said it was now just 2km (1.24 miles) from where the most dangerous waste from the plant was stored.

Greenpeace said the fires were much bigger than the authorities realised.

The NGO's Russia branch, quoted by Reuters, said the largest fire covered 34,000 hectares, while a second fire just a kilometre from the former plant was 12,000 hectares in area.

Mr Emelianenko also said that if the fire engulfed Pripyat it would be an economic disaster, as supervised tourist visits provided valuable revenue.
