Well Voldy seems to have much more complicated Immigration issues than you.

And as far as I remember you have never mentioned needing to file through Islamabad, I thought the idea was to adjust in Country?

( And yes the situation you described I would anticipate is not common)

I am not filing through Islamabad, duh. :P No one is Pakistani or living in Pakistan. We will be doing regular AOS from his L1 right here. I am reading too much into this one (maybe two if I read the thread properly) case, right? No one is going to ask to see pics of Alex and me that predate our current relationship, I think. I hope.

Yes, Voldy has bigger problems than me and I have a sneaking suspicion that he is just trying to mess with my head because he's still angry with us both. I got back at him by reminding him that if he plans on marrying one of his ladies and having a kid he'd better hurry up, tick tock, everyone is in their mid-30s now, windows are closing (having a baby in wedlock is important to him). It wasn't very nice, but I think he deserved it.

And yes, I know I should not be texting with him, but it happens.

To me the Texting/Facebook/Netflix appears more questionable.

You will see all sort of thing at high fraud Consulates that are not common elsewhere.

You mean the fact that I'm still communicating with my ex is a problem? It hadn't ever occurred to me. Anyway, the Netflix connection is looooooooong gone. And yeah, I can see why Pakistan would be a different case from some guy from the UK marrying some American he's known for almost half his life. And my divorce has been final for well over a year now too.

I think the biggest shock for me so far is looking at AOS processing times. I mean... wow. When I went through it last time, AOS took 5 months and ROC took about 3 months and a bit. Alex's L1 can be renewed at the end of the year for another 2 years, so I guess we really can't put marriage off that much longer.

Going to look for a good DM thread for you today -- no royals!

I feel like I am in the wrong section to talk about Immigration issues, but anyway, based on the information shared and that I remember just some pointers.

AOS timeline vary by location, a year may be average CURRENTLY.

Important thing usually is EAD, there is currently an expedite option which he should qualify for if there is a L issue, but no guarantees. Quicker, not quick.

If he uses EAD then he also needs AP to travel, and vice versa.

Looking at it from an Immigration perspective the safe bet is to go make haste. I appreciate life is not always like that.

And you have mentioned getting Citizenship in less than 5 years.

His work has said they will take care of the extension (or whatever it's called) for the L, and not to worry about it. We've kind of been relying on that happening to give us some breathing room to plan the wedding we want. But I think there should be some hurry up now, yeah. I am now thinking if I can pull it together, maybe late October. He'll have his renewed L1B by that time and I can have enough time to plan properly. And then he can still work with his L1 while his EAD is in process, right? Yes, he will need AP. He travels back to the UK about every six weeks. But of course that is likely to change with the coronavirus. He was told the trip he just took is likely to be his last for a while.

Citizenship in five years is only an idea. I worry he's going to get sick of being a part time dad. He's done it for over 2 years now and he hates it.

Remember School Holidays, October may not be practical.

She's at a state school at the moment but the plan is for mum and daughter to move back to London this summer for better opportunities educationally. So it's likely to be a private school. Are the holidays the same for private schools as for state schools, do you know?

Public Schools and State Schools

Generally they have longer summer holidays, nay have school on Saturday. October is going to be term time. Half term is end of October. Question the value at that age.

Thanks. I checked the school that they are trying to get her into and the dates are end of October, 22nd-30th.

It calls itself an "independent" school rather than a "public" one.

I always understood maybe incorrectly that the general terms was Public and then within them there were sub categories, Independent being independent of the Church when that mattered a lot. But many of the terms seem now to be used interchangeably. Anyway fee paying. And that sounds the normal dates for Michaelmas half term. One of the things I notice here is that Spring Break seems to vary significantly and not seemingly connected with Easter.

I have never understood the concept of Easter Monday. Alex has moaned about not having it the two Easters we've had, and I was like... really. I mean, isn't Christ supposed to have risen on the Sunday?* What is Easter Monday for except for hanging about doing nothing?

*I am not a Christian and my knowledge of the Bible is limited to a class on the Bible as Literature and what my ex told me it said about husbands and wives and their duties.

Well no RE in the US.

Easter is a 4 day weekend, there have been times I have missed Easter here because it seems a non event.

It used to be that Good Friday was a totally dead day, like a Sunday but worse. Growing up it was just the middle of a 2 week holiday, but everybody has the same 2 weeks.

I have been there for Easter a few years, the one in 2006 I was just back together with Voldy after breaking up for 3 weeks. Then in 2012 and 2015 iirc. I remember the two later times being massively bored for the better part of a week, everyone drinking too much, rain rain rain, hiding out in the stables with Voldy's sister on the damp hay, nature walks in the bird preserve, bad TV, MIL and FIL making idle threats to murder each other with undetectable poisons, and simnel cake. Oh and the church for Easter Sunday itself, very pretty. Medieval I think.
