Bail Reform mandates for 2020 in NYS are here. Judges will no longer be able to set bail on any of the following charges (listed below). The defendants must be released on non-monetary conditions, regardless of criminal record, ties to the community or previous bench warrants on other cases. Look at the list of crimes where defendants will be given appearance tickets or mandatory release at arraignment regardless of their criminal history or ties to the community. This is horrible legislation that will have a negative impact on public safety.
