Hi Everyone,

so I finally made it to the US and got married. Now the 2 part of the story begins. Can You guys please let me know what is the process of applying for an SSN?

i have the form and on it it’s asking for citizenship details on question no5. Do I put -legal alien not allowed to work? Or put as others? Because the reason for alien not allowed to work does not specify K1 visa holder. If anyone has filled out this form please do let me know what you filled in it.

appreciate your response.

Tens of thousands have filled out this form

Alien ALLOWED to work

This is not a k-1 Visa question.  There are other forums that are better suited for this question and are discussed frequently there.

For the future,  scroll down and find the appropriate forum

YMMV

I would mark "Legal Alien allowed to work".

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes this. And you want to use your maiden name cause otherwise you might run into problems with Homeland because they won't be able to verify your informations.

I got pretty lucky with my SSA down here. Just handed the lady my passport and told her what I want. She knew what to do. No problems at all.

What if we have not received the green card yet? I marked "legal alien not allowed to work" since technically he would be "legal alien not allowed to work" since he has not received his green card yet.

Then you won't get a SS card.

Every K-1 fiance(e) who got a card, including my then fiancee checked "legal alien allowed to work".
