We are getting ready to submit our information to the NVC, but I have a couple of questions that are haunting me!  Of course I'm worried about doing something wrong...

1) We have a goal to submit by Dec 31st.  If we submit in January, do we need to wait for our joint sponsor to file his 2019 taxes?

2) My husband (USC, my sponsor) needs to reestablish domicile in the US.  We have done several things already (signed lease agreement, bank account, PO Box, voter registration, letter of intent to homeschool our children prepared).  What we don't have is employment (We do not plan for him to move down ahead of us).  The plan is to reopen his late Father's business, which is on the property we are leasing.  We have pictures of the cabinetry/woodworking shop ready for use, and plan to get email correspondence with local businesses who are interested in partnering with him on a contractual basis.  We are confident in his ability to begin working immediately after our arrival, as people have been seeking my husband's work for years now, even though we don't live there.  It will be easier to communicate with these businesses closer to our actual (hopeful**) arrival in the country, so would it be acceptable to say that we are pursuing employment, and bring whatever communications come about to the interview?  Is it ok to bring extra information to your interview? if #1 above is not an issue, we could probably wait a couple weeks to work out some conversations related to employment...

Thanks in advance, you guys are invaluable.

You only have to submit the previous year’s taxes if you are submitting documents after April 15. It is a good idea to submit them if you are submitting in January (if you can) as they will present a more accurate picture but since you have until April 15 to file your taxes it’s not needed before then.

I strongly suggest you look at the Canada sub-forum here and the myriad posts relating to domicile and the Montreal embassy. What would fly elsewhere at the embassy, won’t be accepted at Montreal. They are VERY particular about domicile there.

Opening a business more than just here I am.  There are local, state, and federal laws pertaining to permits, liability, taxes etc.  Suggest putting together an actual business plan, looking into those laws and legislation. Your husband plans on being self employed and Montreal may want to see significant assets, plans for health care, etc.

This was actually answered in the other thread that was created for this topic. @KStene22 bring whatever you can/want to for your husband's plan to start a business there but again it's up to the CO. No one here can tell if you they will accept that and it's likely not even necessary as long as you have the other information you have.

If it's somehow not enough then your husband will either have to move down there and show that he's re-established domicile or you stay in Canada.

And no you don't have to wait for 2019 taxes to be filed.
