Makes little sense to attend if you're sick but it also depends on how much you value the event. For some it's a vital way of formulating connections, and one shouldn't need to elaborate on the long term value of that. So unless you're dripping snot all over the place and can't remotely hide how awful you feel, and look the same, it could still be in your interest to go forward with it. But for most occasions it's obviously better to just stay home. I've been fighting off a persistent bout of pneumonia+flu+laryngitis since early November, to the point where wife has been running most of the errands, doing the shoveling outside the house (along the road, back yard, deck, etc.), since every time I go outside it ruins the progress I made in getting over it. Nonetheless, when work/business/important things call.. we sometimes have to make sacrifices. Just glad it happened at this time of the year.

Get well soon, Burnt! That sounds terrible what you've been dealing with. :( I had severe bronchitis a few years back that landed me in the hospital for an overnight observation when it wasn't completely clear if it was pneumonia or not. It was still terrible, and at one point I was begging to be sedated because the coughing was so bad. Stay rested -- pneumonia is no joke.

With you having just a little sinus thing, you are probably in the early stages of whatever Alex has, so maybe you are even more infectious.  Ultimately, it is up to you to attend, but given a social gathering, more than likely you will be spreading whatever is going around.  In my case, I was sick early in December before I headed to Korea, so I isolated myself for a few days and felt fine before my flight and while I was on the trip.  Interestingly, when I returned, two days later I came down with something that I am still dealing with right now.

I thought on this and the advice of everyone else, and I have decided to stay home. The hostess was very understanding, and the friend in from Seattle was very sympathetic. He's going to stop by tomorrow afternoon if I feel up to it with some matzoh ball soup, he says.

Alex is very happy I am staying home as well -- being less sick than he is, I can continue nursemaid activities, he says. I agreed to make Welsh rarebit as requested and put off watching that horrible Netflix Christmas movie recommended by @Boiler, but I drew the line at "sexy nursemaid" dressing up. I feel like ####### and I do not intend to get out of my pyjamas and into some ridiculous get up.

I made clear my dealbreakers when we agreed to get married. No infidelity (if he is even thinking about it, he needs to speak with me first and ask if I am okay with it, to which the answer is a forever no). I will not allow Robin Thicke or James Blunt or Iggy Azalea to be played on purpose in front of me. (He has already broken this to taunt me but I am far more indulgent of this than infidelity.) And I do not make haggis in my household. That is something he can have when he goes home but I will not prepare it for him under my roof. Don't feel too bad for him, he loves my Welsh Rarebit. :) I use this recipe (the one at the very bottom) with the slight tweak of using a decent vintage Cheddar for Lancashire, since I have found getting Lancashire cheese in California to be hit or miss, even at specialty shops. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2011/oct/27/how-to-cook-perfect-welsh-rarebit

This is actually the first time since we started living together that he's been unwell, and it's... interesting to observe. I saw through the extravagant "man flu" claims of being near death (he was well enough to walk a couple of blocks this morning to get himself some doughnuts) and now he's kind of resigned himself to knowing that I will take care of him but I'm not going to bend to every request, especially when I'm also sick. He was talking to his daughter this morning on Facetime and when they were almost done, I butted in and asked if I could talk to her Mummy. The ex told me Al is given to hyperbole when he's not really that ill, and when he's really suffering I'll know it because he becomes quite stoic. Al protested for a moment and then (1) conceded it was true and (2) said it wasn't fair that his ex and his fiance were ganging up on him in his hour of need.

AOC news (back to topic): I follow her on Instagram and she recently posted what her "full face" of makeup entails. This article sums it up: https://www.thecut.com/2019/12/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-aoc-makeup-routine.html

So from that haul, I have tried quite a few of them. I'm guessing that NARS compact the article says is "mysterious" is almost certainly an Orgasm blush, since it looks good on almost everyone and it really does light up your face naturally. (I've been using it since 2001 myself.) And the NARS tinted moisturizer is quite nice, very lightweight and gives a healthy glow without being heavy at all. The bad ones? That Huda Beauty powder (yuck, and I hate baking as a trend, though I get why she would do it if she needs to look made up all day) and that Glossier stick made me look like a disco ball. I also really don't like the consistency of that Stila lipstick -- it does dry down to a finish that will last all day, but it feels goopy and weird for the first five minutes. (I don't wear the red one though, not a good look on me.) And the Kat Von D Shade and Light palette? Owned it, returned it.

Don't you have a book to write?
