Hmm

Well the Squad are all seemingly identifying as female. A certain lack of diversity.

I wasn't talking about the Squad, and I thought we were specifically speaking of AOC. Wouldn't want to shift the goalposts about.

Sadly I think she gets away with far more than she would if she identified as male.

Quick ot question. We had a Christmas Eve party.  A couple showed actively sick. The wife was miserable sick the hubby had a red nose etc. Would you have asked them to leave?  Very crowded house.

Now wife and I are sick and several of the attendees

Something to discuss with your legal team.

This is America.

This is a very timely question!!! Alex and I are both sick and at home in bed, but we are supposed to attend a holiday party later this afternoon. I am only a little under the weather, just a snuffly nose, but Al is full blown Not Very Well and is hacking up both his lungs it sounds like. (We are both taking our Mucinex.) It's really only an easy hike on one of the Mt. Tam loop trails, followed by dinner at someone's home. The weather is pretty nice at the moment and I could probably do with some fresh air. I also know if I don't go I won't hear the end of it, because one of my friends has flown into town from Seattle, and I haven't seen him since the summer, and probably won't again for some time. And everyone loves Alex (more than me I sometimes think) so his absence will be noted, even if I explain he's lying in a heap of discarded Puffs Plus.

I would like to hear what others think because I am minded to go and not force Alex to get out of bed.

Absolutely do NOT go!  It is very unprofessional and mindless to go out and infect others.

Imagine if someone's elder grandma were to attend, you infected her, and she died.

Everyone is about the same age (early/mid 30s), no kids are coming, no one over the age of (I think) 36, and no one with compromised immunity. Alex needs to stay home, and I am happy to soak up everyone's disappointment about that. But I'm in two minds about myself. This is definitely not the flu, and all I have after two days of feeling blah is this stuffy nose. I don't know, it's just the collective guilt I'll have to contend with that I'm seeking to avoid.

Absolutely within your rights to ask them to leave.  It is pretty disrespectful of others' health to show up to work/party/restaurant sick and spread those germs.  Savages!

Depends on how sick they are. I will admit earlier this year I came down with some sort of illness on the very day I was scheduled to go to a party with some of my husband's high level work buddies. It meant a lot that I attend, so I went. I tried to be subtle and not make a big deal about how absolutely hideous I felt at the time. By the end of the evening I was really dragging and they ended up telling him to take me to the clinic. Little illnesses unfortunately drain me dry now, because of underlying condition, so at least I know why it hit me so hard. I don't think anyone ended up sick from me. Sometimes you have to do stupid stuff when you feel like poo. I'm always trying to help others instead of taking care of me... but honestly I desperately wanted to stay home that day.

But I guess this is why our best man made our entire wedding party ill.

With you having just a little sinus thing, you are probably in the early stages of whatever Alex has, so maybe you are even more infectious.  Ultimately, it is up to you to attend, but given a social gathering, more than likely you will be spreading whatever is going around.  In my case, I was sick early in December before I headed to Korea, so I isolated myself for a few days and felt fine before my flight and while I was on the trip.  Interestingly, when I returned, two days later I came down with something that I am still dealing with right now.

Makes little sense to attend if you're sick but it also depends on how much you value the event. For some it's a vital way of formulating connections, and one shouldn't need to elaborate on the long term value of that. So unless you're dripping snot all over the place and can't remotely hide how awful you feel, and look the same, it could still be in your interest to go forward with it. But for most occasions it's obviously better to just stay home. I've been fighting off a persistent bout of pneumonia+flu+laryngitis since early November, to the point where wife has been running most of the errands, doing the shoveling outside the house (along the road, back yard, deck, etc.), since every time I go outside it ruins the progress I made in getting over it. Nonetheless, when work/business/important things call.. we sometimes have to make sacrifices. Just glad it happened at this time of the year.

Gotta love it when the wife does the shoveling!  :jest:
