Interpreter needed for marriage license?

Has anyone come across a town hall needing an interpreter for the foreign fiancé in order to complete the marriage license? They will not allow the US fiancé be the interpreter and they are at a loss of finding someone who speaks creole in rural Pennsylvania.. 

My husband was fluent in English so we didn’t have this come up but I haven’t heard of this before.. anyone else have this issue?

huh? are you talking about getting married in the court?  did they request that for you or you just wondering? You shouldn't need one, as long as your fiance understands what they are saying yes to, you should be fine.

 

the interpreter is usually advised during the Green card interview. but not during court marriage.

They are applying for the marriage license at their local town hall. They won’t let them apply (fill out forms!) without an interpreter for the foreign fiancé even though the US citizen can read it all to her!

Typically it is a state issued license that is valid for the entire state.   You can apply and get at any location in the state

Please note that if you cannot speak English, an independent translator must accompany the applicants.

there is always Vegas or maybe Atlantic city

Geez thanks for finding that- he did tell me “this state is funny”. So strange and they won’t let him be the interpreter or use a phone interpreter. I suggested seeing if he can reach a teacher or professor at a local high school/community college that may be willing. Vegas or Atlantic City aren’t options for them currently ($)

Same thing happened with my husband and I. They said I couldn’t translate for him since I was the one marrying him. Luckily I have family in the area, but I was shocked as well.
