People Like Us

Mark Bauerlein - December 26th, 2019

The liberal elite are in the midst of a crisis of legitimacy. In President Trump’s fate lies their fate. If he survives until November 2020, and proceeds to win reelection, the cognitive dissonance will be excruciating. [...]

The minute Vindman said that in the hearings he should've been removed from any federal government post. No one should be serving under a President with this mentality that they're in any way equal, or even superior, to the President to dictate foreign policy, even further, to participate in such moronic hearings in a partisan smear-like fashion. Bureaucrats need to go, the way Al Bundy showed Kelly's boyfriends the door. Time to clean house.

Buddy with a mole in the White House says that a deep cleaning of the Deep State is being contemplated, if not already under way.

When Vindman corrected Rep. Nunes from "Mr." to "Lt. Colonel," I'd have responded, "Sounds like 'Stuffed Shirt' is the most appropriate form of address."

The term "people like us"  gives me  heartburn.  What do those "people like us"  look like and sound like? Is Steven Miller "like us"? Rudy Guliani "like us"?

In this context  the contrast is drawn with those who went to certain schools and used a certain language and line of thought. The author

invokes the  bien pensant (well thinking) term which is rarely used in a positive sense. I'll assume he was railing against the Foreign policy group think mechanism. Here is the challenge: what if the group think is an orthodoxy that moves the country and our values forward. Are the actions taken by Guliani (even today) in the interest of "us"? What I see are corruption and destruction of "our" laws and values by Guliani.

Group think can be dangerous, but when I observe other professionals like lawyers, engineers, teachers and plumbers , they all have a common base of knowledge and orthodoxy that they leverage as a common understanding. Are they wrong?

Giuliani's actions are on behalf of Trump who is the President, so there's no question its "us". We elected Trump, even those of us who didn't vote for him in 2016. We did not elect Vindman and the other clowns, they do not make foreign policy, nor do they run the country, nor do they decide who is President. The idiocy that contrives, then, that "people like us" decide foreign policy, likewise decides that leveraging other bureaucratic authority against someone is perfectly fine because they also decide who the President is and other things they have no business deciding. Interesting how three words can trigger someone yet toxic, institutional corruption doesn't. It's always clear who the toxic ones are. If people don't like the way the US is set up, the rules, the freedom, etc., they're always free to find somewhere else to ruin.

The recent (illegal) actions of Guliani as the President's Zerubbabel sum up the the bankruptcy of the logical extension of the "Imperial Presidency" to a new form  "Donald Rex".

The movie Vice portrays the moral decline into the morass of this mud driven by Cheney and his cronies in a shadow White House. (Where's DickCheney?) that drove the insane foreign policy, corruption of intelligence reporting, the subversion of US law to drag the US into a disasterous war. Who was lurking around with the legal opinion that because the office of the VP had the seal of President and therefore could not break the law because they were the law?..

Bill Barr

Talk about the swamp!

Donald and Rudy are simply clownish reruns of the Cheney&Rummy of old. Maybe what offended the establishment so much was what they think they are trying to do, but that they are comically inept at doing it. They are stinking up the joint.

But hey, this place is so far gone already,

I hear many Americans are moving to Canada to find fresh ground to corrupt.

Not sure Canada would be my first choice to get away from government bureaucracies.

The poll found that Americans looking north has increased in the past two years. In 2016, 12 per cent of Americans said they’d like to move to Canada. That number now sits at 26 per cent.

The note explained, however, that desire doesn’t equal action. Statistics show that while a growing number of Americans say they’d move up north, there has only been a “modest uptick” in those who have actually moved.

Over 2017 and the first quarter of 2018, 1,055 more Americans were granted permanent residency than the average number during the Obama administration. Student visas granted to U.S. citizens increased by 1,012 in 2017, compared to the average number over the eight years before that.  1,055 new USC out of the approximately 1.5 million USC that already reside in Canada.  That's about 0.07% of an increase.  Don't worry, the US isn't going to suffer from under-population any time soon.

*yawn*  More #fakenews

But really, who cares how many, whom, or where people want to live after leaving the US?

Had I been questioning Vindman, I'd have asked:

-- Who is in your chain of command?  Is the Commander-in-Chief at the top?

-- What is the chain of command in the interagency protocol, and by whose authority was this established?

-- What does the Military Code of Justice say about insubordination?  What are the penalties therefor?

-- Isn't it against the Code of Justice to appear in full military dress at a purely political function?

And probably other questions.

I would've asked:

Who is your commander in chief?

Who is the current President?

Who is Melania Trump's husband?

I'd have asked questions where the answer is Donald Trump some 50 times just to make him say it endlessly.

Isn't a function of the chain of command is exactly that : a chain.  He did ask for advice and executed on it from his chain of command.
