Looks like Trump was right again..

The President suggested that conditions in Cummings' district, which is majority black and includes parts of Baltimore, are "FAR WORSE and more dangerous" than those at the US-Mexico border and called it a "very dangerous & filthy place."

Cummings, the city's leaders and residents were quick to defend Baltimore. The Twitter hashtag #wearebaltimore was trending Saturday night, with users posting pictures and comments expressing their pride in the city.

"Mr. President, I go home to my district daily," Cummings wrote on Twitter Saturday in response. "Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents."

Baltimore's Mayor Jack Young also took the attack to heart, criticizing Trump for disparaging a "vibrant American City."

"It's completely unacceptable for the political leader of our country to denigrate a vibrant American City like Baltimore, and to viciously attack U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings a patriot and a hero," Young tweeted.

Baltimore On Pace to Break Homicide Rate Record in 2019

Baltimore may see the highest homicide rate ever recorded in the city by the end of 2019, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday.

Police had recorded 338 homicides as of Tuesday, four shy of the 342 seen in 2017 and 2015. The city saw 353 homicides in 1993, the most of any year on record.

However, because the city had a larger population in the early 1990’s, the homicide rate per 100,000 residents in 2019 is nearing the rate from 1993, despite the lower total. If Baltimore sees 342 or more homicides by the end of 2019, the homicide rate will reach 57 per 100,000, surpassing the 1993 rate.

Those killed include 36-year-old Carmen Rodriguez, a mother of four who was shot dead at her family's deli and grocery store Sunday evening, CBS Baltimore reports. According to the Baltimore Sun, an unidentified gunman walked into the crowded business and opened fire.

Nidal Alshalabi, the store's owner, told the paper Rodriguez worked hard to make ends meet for her children.

Another young mother, 21-year-old Destiny Harrison, was fatally shot the day beforeRodriguez's murder, outside a beauty shop several blocks away.

Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in a statement released to the Sun: "I am disgusted by the brazen and cowardly acts of violence committed this weekend. Detectives are working tirelessly to identify the people responsible. We will continue through the holiday season with our planned, robust deployment throughout the city."

Baltimore to become first city monitored by police surveillance planes

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said Friday he now supports a pilot program to fly three private surveillance planes over the city, reviving a controversial effort that had been shelved since it was revealed to have been used secretly three years ago.

Harrison previously said the plane system’s proponents had oversold its benefits and it was unproven to work. His apparent reversal followed a lobbying campaign that included members of the Greater Baltimore Committee endorsing the program and a prominent pastor presenting a poll that claimed to show community support. It also has become an issue in the mayor’s race, with at least one candidate receiving support from the system backers and city officials arguing over whether the technology should be adopted.

The planes are being pushed by Texas billionaires Laura and John Arnold through an Ohio company called Persistent Surveillance Systems. The 2016 pilot program, revealed in a Bloomberg report, was halted amid criticism of its secrecy and condemnations from civil liberties advocates who say the system represents a sweeping overreach of surveillance that violates individuals’ rights.

The planes, recording from 8,500 feet in the air during daylight hours, will not be used for real-time surveillance, he said, but will rather help officers investigate past shootings and robberies. They will not be used to investigate police misconduct during the trial run. Officers will not have direct access to the footage.

The three planes will fly simultaneously, covering about 90% of the city, said Baltimore police spokesman Matt Jablow. The resolution of the footage won't be sharp enough for officers to identify faces, but should help them track movement and action.

The testing will align with the city's historically most violent months and will be focused on homicides, shootings and robberies, including carjackings. Harrison said police will not have access to live feeds, and instead, officers will receive "evidence packages" of specific crimes that have already been reported.

Footage from the pilot program will not be used in cases of police misconduct.

City is such a corrupt dump that they feel emboldened to fly spy planes to take care of a half dozen (some 4-8) of those several hundred murders per year. 😂

They did it! Congratulations to Baltimore for breaking the record!

Quote

Baltimore broke its annual per capita homicide record after reaching 342 killings Friday.

With just over 600,000 residents, the city hit a historically high homicide rate of about 57 per 100,000 people after recent relentless gunfire saw eight people shot — three fatally — in one day and nine others — one fatally — another day.

The city council should be invited to the White House to celebrate this momentous achievement. I'm sure Elijah Cummings would be proud to see all the hard work in his district pay off.
