So a deer jumped in front of my car last night.  Thankfully only hit my headlight which smooshed my driver's side quarter panel and made my driver's side door not operable.  So the car is sitting in the driveway with a bag over it's open eyeball in case it rains.  But could have been worse.  I was doing about 40? I had even just slowed down seeing the deer and slammed the breaks when it jumped onto the road.

I finally found a use for that chest xray film taken waaay back for the K1. I've made a cone out of it, and duct taped it to the Sheppard's hook where the bird feeder hangs  to keep a  squirrel from raiding it. So far, so good.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Did I ever tell you the story of my "John Candy" moment? When I scared a squirrel to death while hunting? 

I mean literally scared it to death. 

 

Lets see, I was driving my Honda Passport, it was still fairly new, so it had to be 1996-1997...

One fine morning on the apple orchid in Columbia  NY

My buddy and I were leaving the apple orchid after the morning hunt. 

We were hungry, so I began speeding down a country road doing about mach 1

when I saw a big fat squirrel dart out in front of me....

I scream, my buddy screams, I slam on the brakes

his open cup of cold coffee, all over the brand new carpet! 

The squirrel jumps. 

I stopped the car above the squirrel .

I'm like "ok, did I hit it?" 

I didn't feel any impact or bumps.

I inch the car forward, saw the squirrel in the rear view. 

We get out, I pick up this poor limpy thing....

He was dead. 

No signs of any trauma! 

We deduced that I scared it to death.

Poor little squirrel...
