Hallmark movies, with their emphasis on returning home and the pleasures of the small, domestic life, also send a not-at-all subtle signal of disdain for cosmopolitanism and curiosity about the larger world, which is exactly the sort of attitude that helps breed the kind of defensive white nationalism that we see growing in strength in the Donald Trump era.

I did a quick check on Amanda as I thought this may be a wind up, but she is a genuine nutter.

Ha! I read this this morning and rolled my eyes. And I say this as someone who was forced to watch "A Christmas Prince" and "A Christmas Prince: Royal Wedding" the other week on Netflix! (Not recommended for diabetics.)

Now it may or may not be true that I watched "A Christmas Prince: Royal Baby" on my own on the 23rd without anyone forcing me to do it but it is difficult when you have seen two installments of a franchise and you know that there is a third one out there to resist the siren's song, especially when you call your best friend over to maybe watch it with you because your fiance is stuck at work and you are in possession of an entire bottle of Bailey's and a Christmas gift tower from Harry & David that showed up as a "thank you" from your family law attorney and there is all of this Moose Munch and pears and chocolate to be eaten. I am just saying, that would be a difficult position to be in.

Yes! Like, I know there's a third body around here somewhere... is it as mangled as the other two...

Trust me, you do not need to see these movies. No one should see these movies. Will I watch "A Christmas Prince: Royal Vacation" or whatever the 2020 iteration will be? Well, if there's a fourth body at this crime scene.... :D

Anybody who has a Netflix account, or has long in details to somebody else's,  could watch A Knight before Christmas.

Okay, so this came up in my recommendations yesterday, and it looked SO bad I couldn't even go there. But if you are recommending it, Boiler, maybe I will make an exception. ;)

Edit: Yeah, this looks so terrible I need to see it. https://themuse.jezebel.com/the-knight-before-christmas-makes-no-sense-and-frankly-1840033693

All the teachers I know complain about low pay, this one has a fancy car, very large house etc etc, now I know what snow is like, just have to walk outside and there she is strutting around in very high heels and nobody seems to feel the cold.

That Jezebel article touches on it -- the guess is that she inherited the house? Who knows -- there are more things in this movie that require suspension of disbelief.

That the knight is from Norwich with that accent is definitely one of them!

*sigh*...

Late 80s-90s Hallmark movies used to be big productions that everyone would gather around to watch. They were meaningful and had good stories. Now they are churned out mass-produced fluff that deserve to be flushed down a toilet.

Rather recently, the Hallmark channel still had higher viewership ratings than did CNN.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
