Hello,

My wife and I sent applications for K1-AOS, EAD and AP 10/7/19. National Benefits Center sent NOAs for all three applications 10/18/19. She had biometrics 11/12/19. Online case status is as follows:

As of December 12, 2019, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number ..., for an interview.

Processing time for Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status (I-485) at Fresno CA is 7 to 16.5 months (receipt date for a case inquiry at USCIS Fresno is 10/13/18. I cannot find processing times for National Benefits Center online, but Fresno is our closest field office)

Questions:

1. How long can we reasonably expect to wait for an interview at this point? (looks like approx one year at Fresno ☹️)
2. Do both beneficiary and spouse normally participate in the interview, or only the beneficiary?

Thanks

1.  Your local office controls the wait time.

2.  Both.

Sounds about right. You can be "ready for interview" for a long time, until there is spot open for interview at the local office.

Both go would be best.

My wife's I-797C AOS Appointment Notice was a little more direct sounding (emphasis included):

I was only asking because my wife saw some simulated green card interview videos (maybe on YouTube) where they are separating couples and asking (interrogating) the same questions to find out if their answers agree.

It's called a Stokes interview,  they do it when they suspect something

YMMV

We applied for AOS, EAD, and travel visa on 9/30/18.  Our interview is scheduled for 1/23.  4 months and 3 weeks.  I received my interview letter on mon of this week.  Yours should be here soon.

That is called a Stokes interview, and can be done when the officer suspects marriage fraud.

I think the approximated times on the USCIS website are intentionally on the long side.  From the time I got the notice that my case was ready to be scheduled for an interview to the actual interview was no more then 2 months (this was out of the Des Moines, IA office).  This is dependent on how busy your local office is though.

Also, if your AOS is based on marriage (i.e. K1 visa), the instructions state that the spouse is required to attend.  It's not optional.

We applied for AOS, Advanced Parole and Employment Authorization card.  Our AOS interview is in 5 days on 1/23, and the travel visa and employment authorizations came today.  Less than 4 months for the last two items.  Needless to say, the wife and I are quite excited!

Congratulations and good luck on your interview! My wife and I have waited 3 months and not heard anything. In addition, her social security card was lost in the mail and SSA will not update her name or issue a replacement card until she has her EAD. Feels like zero progress.
