my husband entered the u.s. on dec 20th with marriage visa and i want to know if he can start working with his temporary card or do we have to wait for his social sec card and green card?

He is authorized to work immediately. His endorsed visa serves as his green card until the plastic one arrives.  However, I doubt anyone will hire him unless he can produce a Social Security card.

I recommend you go to the Social security agency and ask for the SSN because mine never came to my house and they did it in 1 week when I went there.

As others have said, he can technically work immediately with the visa endorsed at POE showing that he has LPR status for one year.  But in reality, most government agencies (DMV for driver's license), and employers will ask for a SS card and a green card.  My husband had all kinds of hassles trying to convince people that the spousal visa stamped at POE serves as a green card for one year.  It is so much easier now that he has his actual green card and SS card.  SS card took a week from POE, green card took three months. Good luck!

Yes, I get it. They ask for the SSN and that is it! I hope you can receive the number soon.
