Oh yes, absolutely, embassy employees  have seen many such and similar documents, and I know that some of them speak whatever the local language is, so it makes sense they would be able to spot a shoddy translation pretty easily. And I absolutely don't expect the embassy to do the translating, that would be crazy, that is hours and hours of work.
For me it was more a moment of confusion in the beginning of the process, while we were still gathering stuff for our petition last year, that USCIS would be ok with any person translating the documents. I mean, I personally work as a translator, I know there are some documents I would never agree to translate myself, because they are very complex. But for things like birth certificates, well that's pretty simple, not like you can get that much wrong.  I guess I am just used to having to go to court certified translators for documents like birth certificates. Different countries, different rules and habits.

Don't mean to turn it into a discussion. Just wanted to explain why some of us are a bit confused at the differences.

I see your point and I for one am glad you chimed in with your experiences. Stay engaged and all the best for a smooth journey.

At the embassy level when a document is in English most of the staff is American and therefor it makes sense that they can use your translation to English to help in the adjudication of the case in whole. They are trained to spot if something does not "jive" properly with the previous submitted paperwork. Also, if anything were to be amiss, they have access to other employees that are from the Embassy's country and can interrupt the document. With you having the responsibility of the translation then they can use their manpower doing other things and your record will move along with a quicker pace.

I certain countries, like mine, you have court certified translators. These are people that take a test to prove both their knowledge of a language and of the laws of the country. After they pass these exams they are considered certified and are used to translate documents in administrative work, court cases etc. Most government agencies here would not accept a translation done by anyone else but a court certified translator. They have a seal or stamp they apply on the translated documents to prove the authenticity of their translation.

I was also surprised that this is not needed, I could never submit a document to my government translated by myself, the only case I could do that if I had a friend certified translator go over my translation and check and certify if it’s correct. Which some translation agencies do, they have a non-certified translator do the initial work, and then a certified one go over the translation, check that it’s correct and apply their seal/stamp.

Yes same as in Bosnia.. So my thoughts were if Bosnia requires certified translation, US Embassy is probably even more strict lol

But seems like that's not the case.. anyways moving on lol

BTW.. fingers crossed to all of us who are waiting to be on tomorrow's DHL shipment 🙂

Hi guys,

So my father is a joint sponsor for both my fiance and my sister's husband. On the I134 form part 3, where it says "I have previously submitted a affidavit of support" can he write my fiance's name on there?

Thanks in advance.

If he hasn't sponsored your fiance before, then no.

If he sponsored your sister's husband previously, then he would put your sister's husband's information.

What is a good way to prove "Evidence of petitioner’s domicile in the United States" other than utility bills? I plan to use the bio page of my passport as a "Copy of the U.S. petitioner status in the USA," but this doesn't list my address so I don't think it can be used as proof of domicile as well...

Hello I just discover this Forum today I was in OCTOBER K1 Fillers. I Received my NOA2 Jan 28/2020, I got my NVC case number by calling today to the NVC. I checked on CEAC with that number and it says “At NVC”. I hope we get that e mail from NVC today. It’s been 34 days since approval.

Just sharing this here to ventilate a little bit!

Welcome to the thread. Say there are some great tips, tricks and hacks in the PDF file located on the first page, first posting that can help you through this stage. Check it out. Also....

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

Utility bills

Drivers License

Lease agreement

Mortgage statement

Any correspondence from a governmental agency

I wouldn't use just one of these I would try and put together a "package" of evidence from this list.

What is this for? I haven't came across this required document in my process. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something as my fiancé has his interview next month.

@Dome is from Canada and you are from the DR. Big difference in embassy process and requirements. I'll say it again, all embassies can be different in how they adjudicate a case and with which documents they use. Stick with your embassy''s P3 letter and you can't go wrong.

For the I-134, can personal property value, stocks and bonds value, and real estate be left blank? And do student loans and car loans need to be put under "mortgages and other debts?"

Also, how many years of tax returns do I need? It doesn't specify on the I-134 instructions or on my Canada P3/P4. I only have one year, but I will be using a co-sponsor.
