Wow, thats pretty sad.

Isn't it illegal though to tell people what flag they can or cannot fly? Free will and all that. Well, thats what my husband tells me anyway, and it would only make sense.

When I actually have a house (not a box called an apartment) I'll be flying the american flag, union jack and maybe even a pirate flag ( I am some what of a rebel).

I remember learning about this when I was in boot camp. We will not talk about how long ago that was.

From what I remember the law is that no flag is supposed to bigger or above the American Flag, but flying a solitary one from another nation is no problem.

My guess is that there might of been a local flag ordinance prohibiting other nations flags.

If you look at any courthouse or city hall in CA, the California and City Flags are flown slightly below the American Flag. In boot camp they specifically said that another nations flag can fly even with ours, but not above.

Actually I was looking up Flag laws and found that the following is prohibited:

  1. The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

Well that is a law that gets broken a lot I guess! :)

We put the England flag up last summer for the world cup - of the LAPD decided to investigate every incidence of inappropriate flag use those coupla weeks I would have been worried.

It was all fine until after the Portugal game when it got ripped down in disgust by a certain englishman who had too many beers for breakfast.

Eh...some parts of Houston are lovely but mostly it's pretty ugly. Then again, Dallas isn't a very attractive city either but looks aren't everything.

True, true - some parts of Dallas are nice, but am missing the wide open spaces a bit here. Houston is SOO humid - good hair days are impossible!!

It's true that people here are quite ignorant about Texas. With such a rich mixture of different cultures I'd say that Texas is a far more tolerant place than the vast areas of the U.K where the majority is overwhelmingly white.

What about it?

vamos's post is a logical fallacy. Somehow Texas must be more tolerant than the UK because there are more minorities? How so exactly? Plus for the "large areas of the UK that are white" there are also major urban areas (i.e. cities) which are extremely culturally diverse.

Or do you simply not know what a non sequitur is?
