Oh, it is far from just the left.  My FB feed is filled with idiots who re-post RW drivel as well.  I have a family member who does this all the time, in spite of the fact that I debunk about 99% of what he posts.  He just laughs it off, in spite of the fact that it makes him look foolish.

Like the one I saw last night that said that the SCOTUS is going to kick back one of the articles of impeachment, and thereby cancel the impeachment process.  *sigh*

Indeed. Years ago when I was on Facebook I'd have family from the south calling me a moonbat because I made fun of their birther conspiracies (or the ones that always pop up this century where Bush/Obama/Trump are going to suspend the constitution to be a permanent dictator and draft Americans through the SSS), or their predictable behavior of buying guns every time some politician threatened things and a political group ran some viral campaign about gun bans.

Little do people understand how their behavior is being toyed with. A few anecdotal examples of course but it's always fun having stories that associate with conclusions that have strong meta-analysis or meta-synthesis behind it in observational studies, and when one feels it, that your gut is clearly on the right track. Me and the right went at it (very similar to the way the left and I go at it for the last several years) from like 2002-2014 or so. When thinking of things in a left-right spectrum, how I observe the mainstreaming of irrationality (in my head) clearly fluctuates up and down along a time-series where the x value (sliding rightward) is time, positive y values are left/right and negative is the opposing left/right.

It's called an association fallacy. The Access Hollywood tape is similar but not in the way that poster thinks.

The tape was selectively used to pretend that Trump committed sexual assault absent any actual victims or details besides what clearly amounted to the kind of locker room talk any male (that isn't a choir boy) has been around or done.

Whether or not Trump said what he said wasn't the issue there but the lefts illogical suggestion that Trump suffer legal and political consequences from a tape that had no actual victims just a guy talking trash in private. It was another piece of evidence of the media's intent to smear Trump.

The association fallacy is pretending that is this. As in this is related to that. Here, there's no audio tape, just a few handpicked quotes. We've seen this before ("fine people", Comey memo, etc.) on a daily basis since Trumps election to know not to trust this stupidity and need to verify the context ourselves.

What it looks like (in what little was posted) is someone talking vaguely about the past. This is really a whole lot of nothing but no doubt the media is trying to keep OP's attention (pushing out nonsensical stuff they can just regurgitate to try and validate irrational views) and bait is exactly how it's done.

Apparently the term assocation fallacy is clearly not understood in some circles.

There is no fault in the inference implied unless one created one like:

Donald Trump is a man, Donald Trump bragged about sexual assault, therefore all men brag about sexual assault. ( Accurate to what was claimed in this thread)

The Access Hollywood tape "speaks for itself"

Indeed, clearly not understood in some circles, like the post above trying to square the circle:

- The AH tape was true (even though the tape being shown is what demonstrated its validity)

- Therefore it gives validity to the cherrypicked article that doesn't give the audio in question but apparently has it (not presenting its source)

Association fallacy, assuming that B is true because A is like B and therefore valid by associating A with B when they are quite different. It's an irrelevant association, and clearly done simultaneously as an appeal to emotion by people who think they understand things when they're just irrationally and reflexively jumping on (+parroting) confirmation bias.

I think the key word in the tape was"they let you"

If by "let you" you mean they didn't put up a physical struggle, or were to stunned to respond, or feared for their position, that is hardly the bar of consent.

To me the key words in the tape were the words not said, as in, no names directly associated with the statements in question. I used to hear general talk like this all the time, from high school, to going out with friends, etc. Anyone with an ounce of life experience or social intelligence and not Trump Derangement Syndrome can spot trash talking. Right after Trump's trash talk he gets off the bus, meets with a woman, and surprise, he's polite. It's not to suggest he didn't do what he said, but the connection of that tape to something meaningful like a crime (sexual assault/rape) is clearly hyperbole and a poor smear attempt, basically on the same level as "leaked audio of some cherrypicked statements equals voter suppression!", or "let you" clearly means the opposite of what "let you" actually means.

It's great watching how desperately these people try.

You said sexual assault, not I.  But of course you KNEW I was referring to the "locker room talk" in the audio you brought up for no reason at all.

Just stop wallowing in your own mud pit.  You're wrong, and you know it. Or perhaps I am giving credit where it is not due?
