Traveling on an expired Conditional Green Card with Extension Letter

Just a quick note: I often see posters asking about traveling during the ROC process.  My wife traveled to Taiwan in mid November with her expired conditional Green card and extension letter.  Last night, she boarded a Japan Airlines flight back to the US from Taipei via Narita (Tokyo).  She said the JAL employees were very thorough and they were fully aware that the letter extended her Green Card by 18 months.  

 

(I will pick her up at DFW this afternoon..)

Thanks for sharing!  We don’t (at least, I don’t) see the good stories - it’s always when there is a problem.

Came back to US a day before my conditional GC expired this September. Didn't have any issue. Neither was I asked for the extension.

Update:  Wife processed through immigration at DFW this afternoon.   No issues at all.....I hope the next time she makes a trip to Taiwan, she will use a US passport.....

Is there any difference for Canadians flying to US on expired green cards?  I am purely talking about boarding the plane, not customs.  I flew on United from Mexico to the US.  They didn't even check for anything.  I told them I work in the US, and they gave me the boarding pass.
