I had my interview in Chicago on 12/16/19- it was fast and easy. I got a paper stating that I passed the test and that I was recommended for approval. Also, the officer mentioned that it could take about 30-60 days for approval. My status changed to “you attended your interview” on the next day. Anyone knows how long until actual approval? Anyone in the same boat?

Congratulations! It all depends on your local office and how fast they are.

I was recommend for approval too and the officer told my oath date. The same day my status changed online and next day it changed to "oath ceremony notice was mailed" .

Good luck, hopefully it doesn't take too long and you are finally done!

Thank you for your response. As we know Chicago is swamped  with paperwork so I am expecting a little wait:)

I had my interview in Chicago 9/25/19, did NOT get approved on the spot (decision cannot yet be made). Got the update with 'attended interview' same day.

Got the approval status online 6 days after the interview.

Oath ceremony letter took another 3 weeks to show up and Oath was 2 1/2 weeks after receiving the letter. So it was a total wait of 6 1/2 weeks after my interview.

That’s really helpful. Did you get interviewed on the 3rd floor where usually everyone wait? Surprisingly, when I was checking in on the 3rd floor for my interview I was sent on the 1st floor to be interviewed which was kinda scary in the beginning since the 1st floor is only for people inquiring about information. I was really surprised by that fact but everything went well.

No, I was interviewed on the third floor.

Maybe they pulled in additional resources (with an office on the first floor? Were you in an office or just at the windows down there?!) to get through their backlog? Sounds strange.

Yes I was downstairs by the windows in the waiting area lol and I saw maybe 4-5 windows designed for N-400 interviews. I was worried i won’t be able to hear the questions from the background noise but it was doable:) I am guessing they are clearing their backlog which is good...

Very interesting!
They definitely didn't have that set up when I interviewed end of September.
So I would guess the wait time then to be the supervisor review (for final approval) and then the scheduling for the oath to be the main culprits for wait times. But with the oath the lady who held mine said they have ceremonies every day of the week except Fridays with usually around 135 applicants in it (we were only 108 people or something like that). And of course, the end of the year slow down with holidays and people being off work.

So yes, I know, you just want the waiting to be over, but just stay patient for a little while longer and you'll be a citizen! (and you'll be done with USCIS!!!! ;) )

Thank you!

Did you hear about your oath yet? I had my interview on Jan 2nd, also on the 1st floor. My status changed to “you attended your interview” the next day (which is Friday) on my.uscis.gov. Today (Monday) my status changed to “case was submitted for Quality review based on an approval recommendation” on egov.uscis.gov and few hours later my.uscis.gov shows “we approved your application”.

My IO said that I passed and he will submit recommendation for approval to his supervisor. They were having some technical issues (ipad not working) and that’s why he can’t tell me yet when is the oath schedule. I also asked him if that’s the reason why my paper says “decision cannot be made yet” which he answered yes. I thought I will wait weeks to see the actual approval. The egov.uscis.gov and my.uscis.gov don’t have the same status. Hope you get your approval soon! Probably a delay due to holidays.

I hope so too:) If the ipad didn’t work how did you sign your papers? There are few places where my IO asked me to sign on the ipad before he handed me the recommended for approval letter.

He printed them out and I signed them. My reading and writing exams were all printed in a piece of paper. 😊
