They will issue a 221g which is a denial that can be overcome. Often they will just put the person into AP until they meet the requirements.  Are you male or female?

As long as it doesn't get outright rejected, I am fine. I am a Pakistani male, so I expect to be put into administrative processing anyway.

Rescheduling is not necessary as they will not be issuing any visa until after the J1 requirement is satisfied anyway.  Rescheduling just adds its own set of complications, which in your scenario, is unnecessary.

Thanks for the advice pushbrk, that makes sense.

Just out of curiosity though, what complications does rescheduling add?

Significant delays at best and denials for not showing up, at worst.

Noted and makes sense, thanks for your advice again.

have you researched whether you can get a waiver for the J residency requirement? instead of rescheduling the interview

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

I haven’t looked too much into a waiver mostly coz my time is about to be up anyway.
