add joint sponsor when the case in process?

Asking this question for my friend who cannot read English.

My friend has a sibling who is US citizen and is sponsoring my friend for GC. The 130 and other forms were filed in 2007. Last month, my friend received a letter from NVC, for setting up the green card interview. My friend's sibling was laid off several years ago, and till now is still unemployed. Highly possible that my friend's sibling won't find a job until interview.

So my friend may have two options:

1. find another joint sponsor (is this doable? will this affect the case progress since the there are new documents submitted?);

2. my friend has very stable income and several oversea properties, so can he provide evidence of all these.

For these two, which is a better option? Any other suggestion? Really appreciate!

option 1 is the best option. at the NVC they needed to submit current Affidavit of support etc.. An interview will not be set up if the sibling (aka petitioner) does not have a job.  This will need to be corrected asap.

Thanks. I am asking since my wife's parents had the similar situation. During their application, they added another qualified petitioner, then the whole process took more than 3  years... So if possible, my friend would like to try option2.

From the official website:

If You Can’t Meet the Minimum Income Requirements

You may count the assets of the relatives you are sponsoring.

You dont need another qualified petitioner.  The petitioner needs a joint sponsor or a job.
