N-400 missed biometrics - abandoned or re-schedule?

Hello,

Does anyone know what happens if you miss a biometric appointment due to travel (itineraries available)? I want to apply but I'm also traveling 4 weeks here, 4 weeks there, ... so I am wondering if I can re-schedule after return with boarding passes as proof of absence, or if the application is considered abandoned if they don't hear from me regarding re-schedule prior to the appointment?

Also, will the appointment letter be available online for online filers, or only come via mail?

And I am aware that it's preferred to be around while an application is pending - but life and work and such sometimes require differently :)

As long as you receive the notice and get it to them to re-schedule before the appointment I think you will be fine.

I applied online and my biometrics appointment letter was sent by mail and online. I received it online within a few days of mail sent. If you get it online and realize that you cannot make the appointment I would send it as soon as possible.

Or you could wait until you do not have to travel so much and then apply. Also remember that there are residency requirements attached to applying for Citizenship.

Thank you! Yes, my concern is that I won't be home to receive the physical letter and respond on time.

Hence my question if I respond after the appointment with proof of absence, if that will be ok for a re-schedule, or if my application will be considered abandoned.

The residency requirements I have in mind - I already qualify, even if I would be outside of the country for 14 of the next 18 months (going by worst case scenario re processing times) - but I'm not intending to do so, it will be max. a 50/50 :) My worry is solely the fingerprint appointment if received while abroad.

Thank you!

That is why I mentioned if you get the biometrics appointment letter online to reschedule. Print off the letter and reschedule according to what the letter states. If you have your itinerary great, if not share that you have business to attend to and will be out of the country. I believe they will reschedule. I don't even you have to have a reason to reschedule. Be careful though to not not reschedule a lot.

Yep, not planning on doing it, only once if needed. My main concern is that if I am away for 4 weeks, receipt of letter plus appointment itself might fall in that time frame. Oh well...

We missed ours for the Removal of Conditions.  After reading online people said they just went and it was no big deal.  We just drove down and no one said a thing...checked us in and did the biometrics and the case updated online to fingerprints received.

In the meantime, we called to reschedule and got attitude from the level 1 rep and said we had to reschedule with a level 2 rep who were not taking more calls that day.

Others who went late reported no problems at all.

Awesome, thank you! How many days after the original appointment did you end up going?

A week past the interview date.  The letter was dated 10 days or so prior.  It took only three weeks from filing to get, so maybe try filing when you’re around a month just for tidiness’s sake if you can.

That's probably the smartest thing to do. I'll prepare everything and hit "send" and press "pay" from abroad :)

Thanks a lot!

As I understand it, you cannot file N400 online from outside the USA.

1. Filing your Form N-400 online

If you are applying based on your military service, are applying from outside of the U.S., or are applying for a fee waiver or reduced fee, you cannot file your Form N-400 online.

I'm almost certain that this applies to residing outside the U.S. with a non U.S. mailing address, is that possible?

I haven't heard the result of anyone who has done that previously.  I would like to be wrong about it as we are currently overseas on vacation and eligible to apply before returning to the USA.
