Hey Everyone!

We submitted a USCIS request for expedite (humanitarian) for spousal I-130 over the phone with a rep last Monday, 12/9. She said the target response date would be 12/14/19. Still nothing. For anyone who has ever filed an expedite request before, how long did it take for a response? Thank You!

Hi there, we have filed expedite requests for I-130 at USCIS stage on December 12th. Mine (at TX SC) was approved on December 16th after we had to mail them additional info/proof. Our son's though (at NBC in Missouri) has not had an update since we faxed requested info/proof on December 20th.

Any update on your case??

I called again & the Tier 1 agent had to resubmit my request (it had been assigned to a rep but no movement on the expedite) so had a new expedite request on 12/20. Finally on Friday, 12/27 I got an email saying that I needed to submit proof for reason to expedite within 48 hours. They provided the email to send it to. (If you have documents you need translated, make sure you already have it, because it was a rush trying to get a translation service to turn around documents within 24 hours so that I could submit it by the 48 hour deadline).

Finally on 1/3/20 they emailed and said they received my email & will make a decision within 30 days on whether they will expedite or not. So now I'm still waiting.

I would keep calling until you get your answers on updates. There must have been holiday slowdown but you deserve to know updates!

We have called several times but all tier1 officers said they couldn't do anything for us we would need to speak to a tier2 but they were never available...

Last tier1 said that they are not able to transfer calls from outside the US

It's draining...

I feel we can't do anything but wait...

I am just a little worried that my i130 gets approved through expedite but our son's won't ... worst case, I'll have my visa expiring while we wait for our son's  :(

An approved I-130 can sit at NVC for a year without any steps and should actually be held for 2 years before being destroyed. That’s just to start the processing at NVC. Plus the actual visa is valid for up to 6 months from the medical.

you mean you don't need certified translations?

They do need to be certified for USCIS, but anybody fluent in both languages can do the certification. They just need to provide the certification statement as noted in the link.

After USCIS (NVC and consulate), they may or may not need translations from certain authorities/with certain qualifications. I think NVC itself accepts them in a similar manner (not 100% certain, sorry), and the individual consulates have their own requirements, which should be noted in the instructions/packet before the interview (with the list of documents to bring).
