What paperwork do I need to bring for my K1 visa interview? Do I have to bring the I-129F with me even though it has already been approved? Do I have to bring COPIES of everything with the originals? Will my certificate of honourable discharge be sufficient proof of military service? Please help. My interview is next week. Thank you very much.

Ok I looked at my checklist which told me what I need to obtain. It doesn't tell me, however, what I need to bring to the interview. Do I just bring the stuff listed in the checklist or do I have to bring all that I-129F paperwork that was already approved?

Original birth certificates, divorce or death decrees, and originals of any documents to support the I-134 fall into this category. The Consulate has the right to ask for the original of any document, so best be prepared.

I am screwed. I only have a copy of her birth certificate.

Great. My friggin' interview is next week and I have to write to London to obtain proof of military service? I already have a certificate of honourable discharge. Shouldn't that be enough?

Your checklist (Packet 3) should have mentioned what you need to obtain so that you can bring it to the interview. Depending on where your interview is at (Vancouver or Montreal) that list can change.

Can I ask why you're including proof of military service in there? In all likelihood your certificate is good enough, but that depends on what kind of purpose you're intending it for.

Thanks for answering. Ahh...the checklist is 'packet 3'? I had no idea that's what it was called. Nice that I could get the answer from you on this thread but nobody could answer me on a thread about packet 3. lol

Ok, my checklist mentions nothing about bringing anything from the 129F. I wouldn't see why I'd bring it when the Consulate would already have all that stuff because the petition was approved. It tells me to bring MY birth certificate (not my fiancee's...and honestly...I wouldn't be bringing hers because I don't have it and it's not wise to send you ID to someone through the mail), police clearance, etc.

I'm also including proof of military service because I was in the Canadian Forces. I have my certificate of honourable discharge and still have my service card so I will bring those two. They will, however, not be keeping them and I hope they don't expect to be keeping them. Thanks again.

I found my certificate of honourable discharge and I still have my old service card so that should suffice. By the way, I hope they don't intend on keeping it because that's not gonna happen.

I'd make copies. I'd assume they just want to make sure the copies are from the originals....then they'd keep the copies.

Hee, ignore the silly person going through Vancouver consulate! Why can't they make the instructions the same?

JoeCanuk - definitely make copies. I think if you show them the originals the consulate will be okay with that.
