Nigeria is a high fraud consulate. Have people gotten married on the first visit (which is stupid, imo, but i digress) and been approved? Yes, I suppose so. Most typically though, multiple in person visits are required and a LOT of proof of bonafide relationship/marriage. It is a very hard consulate, for good reason.

i 485, 130, EAD and AP

04/09/2019    NOA1 received/check cashed i 485 and 130 (direct adjustment)

11/7/2019      Interview- Norfolk

11/10/2019    APPROVED (notification rec'd 11/10, approval dated 11/8)

DONE FOR TWO YEARS!!! ;)

 

Filed everything ourselves with no RFE's or delays.

 

CR1 for Child under 21 (20 at time of filing)- Filed by LPR Spouse for his son

4/4/20     Mailed packet

4/12/20   NOA1 rec'd

10/14/21 (havent heard anything... when do i start to get worried?)

9/15/22 APPROVED! Now to wait for NVC and interview....

10/14/21 Mailed to AZ PO Box. Let the waiting begin. Again.

10/16/21 Received at PO Box

10/19/21 Received Text NOA1

10/23/21 Received Mailed NOA1

It really depends on the country and their culture. In Asian countries, it's not uncommon to get married in the first visit after having talked on the phone for a while. Although I wouldn't recommend it, but I've seen it done in the past successfully. You will have to see for Nigeria if the culture (or common practice) for foreigners to come and marry in the first visit. I guess the other factor would be, how long have you been dating (remotely)? Again, I wouldn't recommend it, but it's possible.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!

September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!
February 9, 2011: Depart for China
February 11, 2011: Registered for marriage in Wuhan, officially married!!!
February 18, 2011: Wedding ceremony in Shiyan!!!
April 22, 2011: Mailed I-130 to Chicago
April 28, 2011: Received NOA1 via text/email, file routed to CSC (priority date April 25th)
April 29, 2011: Updated
May 3, 2011: Received NOA1 hardcopy in mail
July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

If your marriage is legit you don't need to worry about anything. 

 

You will need to show evidences of everything like photos, joint bank account (or any thing you have together), etc.

 

If your case is not strong enough they will ask you for more evidences and let your case in Administrative process.

 

Which step are you now? USCIS or NVC?

We are yet to get married by March I asked so that we won't make mistakes. Thanks.

Marrying on the first visit for ANY country is unwise, imo.  If I need to explain why, then you won't heed my advice anyway.........However, marrying on the first visit for a high fraud country such as Nigeria, is a red flag which can certainly be a factor in how the Consulate Officer sees your relationship.  You must convince the Consulate officer that your marriage is bona fide. The very best evidence you can provide is that of time spent together.......multiple visits along with both parties being present at interview time is highly recommended for Nigeria and other high fraud countries.... 

 

I strongly recommend making several visits before committing to a marriage. Doing so would be good for the relationship as well as the immigration process, imo.....Good Luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
