Having got the NOA2 (no letter yet) - I asked when is the best time to fill out the DS-160 (see also supplemental questions below - which are in a another thread on here).

I was under the impression I needed a CASE NUMBER to fill it out:

The PDF: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nfin98c33IEpB0T0FlURERriblYmlm5O/view) - says:

"Once you have your case number you can complete the DS-160 (14 & 15)"

AND

"case. It does not need to be finished now but after you receive
your case number but does need to be finished before you can schedule your interview."

When I asked a similar question on the SEPT K-1 filers thread - GREENBAUM said I should do it now... which  I have (completed it) - but not submitted.

Please can someone advise?

Thanks

SB

PS: (Sorry to repeat)

In the DS-160: My only 2 queries:

1. TRAVEL PLANS - "Have you made specific travel plans? " - What does this relate to? When I fly out with my K1 Visa in hand - or an interim visa. I ask as I am flyingout for Christmas NEXT WEEK. I dont want to screw this up.

2. PREVIOUS COUNTRIES VISITED - "Have you traveled to any countries/regions within the last five years?" So in theory 2 countries were in 2014 but over FIVE years ago now, do I add them anyway? (FRANCE / NORWAY)

My suggestion is to wait until NVC has sent you notice with your case file #  before submitting the DS-160.     The process varies with embassies, but seriously there is no reason to rush this.

1.  yes when you fly out with the K-1.   But, in reality, you don't want to have exact travel plans as the embassy stresses to not book travel until you have your visa.     Don't stress on this, the DS-160 does not have the K-1 in mind.   It is a non-immigrant visa application (which yes the K-1 is .. sort of), but the K-1 is processed as an immigrant visa.      And if you don't travel by the date noted, no big deal.

2. The question is exactly as written, if you travel was over 5 years ago ... don't list it.

Really appreciate your time in answering...

0. I did wonder..... I didn't see a place to add the CASE NUMBER though - is it just a question of making sure the STATE DEPT has your file before submitting?

1. Thanks for that, I just wasn't sure.

2. OK thanks, I didn't know if by FIVE years it meant - 5 years, 3 months and 2 days. (i.e. under 6 six years) - (I'm overthinking this aren't i? :))

So in your opinion, once I get the NVC notice (whatever that looks like) - then just get on with this DS-160 and submit.... and pay....

All I want to do - is do it right. :)

Thanks

Yes, you are over thinking on this  ... everyone does to a degree.  ;)

0.   Use to be under TRAVEL INFORMATION, directly under purpose of trip to USA ...  Upon looking at the DS-160 just now, it appears they have removed that question.    So case file # is moot.  ;)     Scratch that!

Yeah - its a stress!

Like the Social Media question. I have nothing to hide. I just want to make sure I have everything!

So if it's moot, in your humble opinion, shall I double check and then submit? Or wait until I have visited for Christmas? (Or is that moot too?)

You can go over the DS-160 again, check to make sure they didn't move the Case number question to a new location, just to be sure, when I searched I looked for where it "use to be"

Then I would also suggest to jump over to the UK sub-forum, and the embassy website (the official site) to check on the exact process for paying the visa fee and scheduling the interview.
